  • When survival becomes politics

    Open Access•Lucia Garcia-Lorenzo, Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2026•References: 53

Collective action is essential for tackling social, institutional, and environmental challenges, often fueled by shared identities, common norms, and a belief in the possibility of change. However, the impact of participating in collective action on individual identities, and how this knowledge can shape future efforts to maintain engagement and promote positive change, remains underexplored. This study uses a liminal and identity work approach t…

  • Embracing relational vulnerabilities at the top

    Open Access•Suvi T Satama, Hannele Seeck et al.•ARTICLE•Culture and Organization•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 28

This study aims to revitalise the concept of relational vulnerability in advancing the theory of managerial identity work. Drawing on 35 semistructured interviews and 12 podcast interviews with top managers in Finland, we identify two entwined themes through which top managers practise identity work by negotiating their vulnerabilities in the workplace. Our study illustrates the embodied subtlety of relational vulnerabilities in top managers' ide…

  • The becoming of worker mothers

    Open Access•Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo, Lorena Carrasco et al.•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 16

Worker mothers still struggle to find a good balance between their care and work identities. Most research on motherhood at work focuses on how organizational structures can enable professional women to find a balance between caring and work identities neglecting their personal experiences and how they understand themselves in relation to both motherhood and work. We propose to use a liminal identity work perspective to explore the identity tensi…

  • A postcolonial and pan‐African feminist reading of Zimbabwean women entrepreneurs

    Open Access•J Miguel Imas, Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2022•Cited by: 9•References: 31

This paper challenges the Eurocentric entrepreneurship narrative from postcolonial and pan‐African feminist perspectives. Based on interview research conducted with 24 Zimbabwean women entrepreneurs, we narrate their microstorias in order to expose the legacy of entrepreneurial colonialism and patriarchy in Africa. The microstorias reveal the colonial past as well as the patriarchal norms that disenfranchise women entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe. Yet, …

  • Changing the NHS a day at a time

    Open Access•Liora Moskovitz, Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 18

This paper aims to contribute to our understanding of the unique role of enactment in the dynamics of motivation and participation in prefigurative social movements, with the intention of providing a deeper understanding of the mechanisms, inherent to prefiguration, driving change through collective action. We achieve this through examining what motivates people to participate as activists in a social movement trying to enact changes within the N…

  • Insights from Societal Psychology

Open Access•Caroline Howarth, Catherine Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2013•Cited by: 14•References: 35

In this paper we demonstrate that societal psychology makes a unique contribution to the study of change through its focus on the 'contextual politics' of change, examining the different interests at stake within any social context. Societal psychology explores the contexts which promote or inhibit social and societal change and can be seen as a bridge between social and political psychology. It focuses on how the context shapes the ways in which…

  • Framing uncertainty

    Open Access•Lucia Garcia-Lorenzo, Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo•ARTICLE•Social Science Information•2010•Cited by: 3•References: 37

Using material from three qualitative studies into the social psychological processes surrounding uncertainty and change in organizations, this paper explores the insights gained from conceptualizing narratives as a bounded space that accommodates disruptions while providing safety in uncertain conditions. The empirical material illustrates how narratives are used to transmit permanence and collective knowledge while allowing for self-development…

  • Telling stories and the practice of collaboration

    Open Access•Lucia Garcia‐lorenzo, M Nola et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2008•References: 15

Purpose Stories and the telling of stories constitute a major part of our daily life, yet how this happens is not clearly understood. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the ways in which stories challenge the notions of knowledge that are common in the “classical” scientific tradition. It also aims to focus on the function of stories in the collaborative, interpersonal and inter‐organisational dynamics of the way knowledge is built up in da…
