  • Herd management and animal catchment areas at the taula enclosure of Binissafullet site (Menorca, Spain)

    Open Access•Lua Valenzuela-Suau, Alejandro Valenzuela Oliver et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 5

This study presents the first isotopic analysis of livestock from a taula sanctuary dating from the Second Iron Age (c. 550-123 BCE) in Menorca (Spain). These emblematic structures contain the remains of animals, evidence of wine consumption, and other artefacts. Consequently, these structures are interpreted as sanctuaries or places where social cohesion was reinforced. The archaeological record reveals a blend of local and extra-insular element…

  • Public health capacity development in Africa

Open Access•Paulo Ferrinho, Paulo De Lyz Girou Martins Ferrinho et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2024

The public health context is becoming increasingly more complex, gradually associating traditional public health threats connected with infectious diseases with other health problems. This leads to a triple burden of diseases interrelated with growing threats to health security and new conceptual paradigms to approach them [1–3]. More than any other region, Africa feels the weight [...]

  • Recreation and Alcohol Consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa

Open Access•Daniela Alves, Antonio Pedro Delgado et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

This study provides new data on the recreational environment in Praia and can contribute to the development of local and national public health policies and interventions in line with several SDGs to reduce alcohol consumption, enhance healthy leisure/recreation practices, and promote better living conditions for its inhabitants

  • Low potassium and high sodium intakes

Open Access•Daniela Alves, Zélia Santos et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

A low potassium intake and a high sodium intake were found in Praia. Thus, efficient health education campaigns and health promotion are needed and should be tailored considering gender and urban areas

Antonio Pedro Delgado, Antonio Delgado•ARTICLE•Irish Studies Review•2018

The making of Samuel Beckett’s “Fin the partie”/”Endgame”." Irish Studies Review, 26(4), pp. 591–593

  • The making of Samuel Beckett’s ‘L’Innommable’/‘The Unnamable’

Antonio Pedro Delgado, Antonio Delgado•ARTICLE•Irish Studies Review•2017•Cited by: 1

Dirk Van Hulle and Shane Weller’s The Making of Samuel Beckett’s “L’Innommable”/“The Unnamable” provides a detailed examination through genetic studies of Beckett’s “unword”, discussed on the “Germ

  • Determinants, Health Problems, and Food Insecurity in Urban Areas of the Largest City in Cape Verde

Open Access•Isabel Craveiro, Daniela Alves et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Urbanization processes are intertwined with nutritional transition because there is easier access to food of low nutritional quality at reduced prices, changing dietary patterns and leading to an increase of non-communicable chronic diseases. This study aims to understand the perceptions for high blood pressure, obesity, and alcoholism, describing some interactions of these dimensions in the problem of food security in the city of Praia. A qualit…

  • Isotope and trace element evolution of the naica aquifer (Chihuahua, Mexico) over the past 60,000 yr revealed by speleothems

    Open Access•Fernando Gázquez, Jos"-Mar"a Calaforra et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

The “espada” speleothems of Cueva de las Espadas (Naica Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico) comprise a high-purity selenite core overlain by successive deposits of calcite, gypsum and aragonite. Gypsum precipitated under water from a hydrothermal solution (~ 58°C) when the water table was above the cave level ca. 57 ka, during the last glaciation, and some intervals during deglaciation and the Holocene. Aragonite was deposited at lower temperatures (~ 26°C)…

  • Stable isotope composition of middle to late Holocene land snail shells from the Marroquíes archeological site (Jaén, southern Spain)

Yurena Yanes, José Antonio Riquelme et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Late-glacial to Holocene transition in northern Spain deduced from land-snail shelly accumulations

    Open Access•Yurena Yanes, Igor Gutiérrez-Zugasti et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Shells of the helicid Cepaea nemoralis were studied using taphonomic, isotopic and morphometric measurements to estimate late glacial–Holocene (~ 12.1–6.3 cal ka BP) environmental conditions in northern Spain. Higher taphonomic alteration among Holocene shells suggests lower sedimentation rates or higher shell-destruction rates than during glacial conditions. Shells preserved the aragonitic composition despite differing degree of skeleton damage.…

  • Pleistocene–Holocene environmental change in the Canary Archipelago as inferred from the stable isotope composition of land snail shells

    Open Access•Yurena Yanes, Crayton J Yapp et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2011

The isotopic composition of land snail shells was analyzed to investigate environmental changes in the eastern Canary Islands (28–29°N) over the last ~ 50 ka. Shell δ 13 C values range from −8.9‰ to 3.8‰. At various times during the glacial interval (~ 15 to ~ 50 ka), moving average shell δ 13 C values were 3‰ higher than today, suggesting a larger proportion of C 4 plants at those periods. Shell δ 18 O values range from −1.9‰ to 4.5‰, with movin…

  • Holocene paleoenvironment (∼7200–4000 cal BP) of the Los Castillejos archaeological site (SE Spain) inferred from the stable isotopes of land snail shells

    Open Access•Yurena Yanes, Christopher S Romanek et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2011
