  • Imaginaries and problematisations: A heuristic lens in the age of artificial intelligence in education

Open Access•Lina Rahm, Jörgen Rahm‐skågeby•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•2023

This paper suggests that artificial intelligence in education (AIEd) can be fruitfully analysed as ‘policies frozen in silicon’. This means that they exist as both materialised and proposed problematisations (problem representations with corresponding solutions). As a theoretical and analytical response, this paper puts forward a heuristic lens that can provide insights into how AI technologies (or advocated AI technologies) function as proposed …

  • Managing Public Service: The Harmonization of Datafication and Managerialism in the Development of a News-Sorting Algorithm

    Open Access•Torbjörn Rolandsson, Andreas Widholm et al.•ARTICLE•Digital Journalism•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 19

This article studies the algorithmic project News values at Swedish public service radio, from the perspective of datafied managerialism. Drawing on ethnographic observations and interviews with managers the study shows how the project, that outwardly works to automate news-sorting algorithmically, was employed to generate data about a number of internal journalistic activities, for a variety of purposes. Data was perceived of as a type of capita…

  • HCI and deep time: Toward deep time design thinking

    Open Access•Jörgen Rahm‐skågeby, Lina Rahm•ARTICLE•Human-Computer Interaction•2021

To see objects not just through the lens of human agency but through the lives of nonhuman beings that both shape and are shaped by relationships and processes embodied in material forms is to invi

  • The archive and the scene: On the cultural techniques of retrocomputing databases

    Open Access•Jörgen Rahm‐skågeby, Anders Carlsson et al.•ARTICLE•New Media & Society•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 7

Several digital spaces are now archiving artifacts from the first 1980s home computer boom. These spaces are not only storages but also social venues and “memory banks,” and thereby depend on several concurrent practices: software and hardware developed to read, run, and preserve computer code; archiving of old software, magazines, and personal stories; contemporary conferences dedicated to retrocomputing; and making artifacts, which used to be p…
