Open Access•Pete Bettinger, Krista Merry et al.•ARTICLE•Area•2026•References: 41

From personal observations of recent published works, the term “wall‐to‐wall” has been rather loosely employed to describe geographically extensive data. Therefore, an assessment of peer‐reviewed literature was conducted to help classify how the term has been used in remote sensing and geographical analyses. A bibliographic search located 394 published works that referenced wall‐to‐wall data. These works were reviewed for key items such as the da…

The recreational opportunities available across landscapes of the Southern United States can be broad and diverse, and collectively are considered a subset of cultural ecosystem services. In describing the settings of recreational opportunities, a number of methods have been proposed that are based in part on geographic information and that can be facilitated by geographical analyses. Presented here are two expedient and cost-effective methods fo…

Open Access•Pete Bettinger, Krista Merry et al.•ARTICLE•Singapore Journal of Tropical…•2012

The forests of southeastern A frica are vulnerable to damage imposed by tropical cyclones operating in the S outh I ndian O cean. We undertook a geographical analysis to determine the relative vulnerability of forests given tropical cyclones recorded during the 1959–2008 storm seasons. From this analysis, eastern coastal forests of M adagascar seem to be the most vulnerable, although return intervals for severe storms vary along the eastern coast…
