  • Modeling the clinical and economic impact of universal varicella vaccination in Belgium with dynamic population

    Open Access•J C Lang, Robert B Nachbar et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2026

Although universal varicella vaccination (UVV) significantly reduces morbidity and mortality, it has not been implemented in Belgium. We evaluated the clinical and economic outcomes of two-dose UVV in Belgium. A previously published dynamic transmission model with dynamic population age structure was adapted to Belgium. The base case UVV strategy (Strategy 0) consisted of routine two-dose varicella vaccination at ages 1 year (vaccine coverage rat…

  • The intergroup sensitivity effect among racial groups in the United States

    Open Access•Katherine White, Katherine R G White et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 5

    Open Access•John Lang, J C Lang•ARTICLE•South Central Review•1986

Although Fred Chappell's poetry and novels have received increasing critical attention in recent years,' his short fiction remains largely unexamined. While such focus may be understandable, especially in light of the author's reception of the Bollingen Prize for 1984 (an award he shared with John Ashbery), it has tended to slight Chappell's stories, whose quality is remarkably high. To date, Chappell has published only one collection of stories,…

  • God's Averted Face: Styron's Sophie's Choice

    John Lang, J C Lang•ARTICLE•American Literature•1983

IVE years before publication of Sophie's Choice in I979, William Styron wrote for New York Times a one-page essay entitled Auschwitz's Message. In that essay, occasioned by I974 symposium on Auschwitz at Cathedral Church of St. John Divine, Styron reported on his recent visit to concentration camp and mentioned acquaintance who was to become his novel's protagonist: the once devoutly Catholic Polish girl I knew many years ago, memory of whom impe…

  • The Alpha and the Omega: Styron's The Confessions of Nat Turner

    John Lang, J C Lang•ARTICLE•American Literature•1981

Ai7HEN, as teachers of modern American literature, we use paperbacks in the classroom, we seldom pay much attention to the possibility of omissions and variant readings from the first edition. Such concerns are reserved for scholars of earlier periods. The textual critic examines the various editions of Shakespeare's plays or of Donne's poems. He compares the Daisy Miller of the New York edition with the original version of that novella. But when…
