Introduction
The Emergence of Social Order by Processes of Typifying
The article argues that Rational Choice approaches are not sufficient to explain the “how” of the emergence of social order. Therefore, the concept of “typifying” according to the theory of Berger and Luckmann is understood as the most important form of establishing social orders between different social actors. A computational model is described that captures the basic features of the typifying process. Each artifical actor consists of two diffe…
Historical evolution and mathematical models
Though there are a lot of approaches to the problem of sociocultural evolution most of them are only one-sided, i.e., they deal only with either social or cultural processes. With few exceptions they are also only informal theories with no formal rigour. In this article we propose a theoretical model which considers both sides of the problem, that is the mutual interdependence of the evolution of social structures and of the culture of a society.…
An Essay Concerning Sociocultural Evolution
Building Blocks of a Mathematical Sociology
Social differentiation as the unfolding of dimensions of social systems
We argue that by the use of geometrical concepts it is possible to construct a mathematical model of social evolution, that is a mode] of the theory of social differentiation developed particularly by Habermas and Luhmann. To capture this theory it is necessary to define the concept of dimensions of social spaces. The model is implemented into a hybrid computer program which consists of a stochastic cellular automaton (CA) and a genetic algorithm…
Sociological Discourses in Virtual Reality
The hybrid system THEOPRO (theories in PROLOG) is constructed for the logical reconstruction and structural comparison of sociological theories—in its present state of development, the theories of historical materialism (Marx) and the theory of social systems by Luhmann. It consists of an expert system (knowledge-based system, rule-based system) and a simple neural net. The knowledge base of the expert system contains about 900-1,000 concepts of …
Diskussion.
