  • Maize and dietary change in early Peruvian civilization: Isotopic evidence from the Late Preceramic Period/Initial Period site of La Galgada, Peru

Open Access•Eden Washburn, Jason Nesbitt et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 26

The Late Preceramic Period (3000–1700 BCE) and Initial Period (1700–800 BCE) in Peru was a time of emergent social complexity as illustrated by the construction of ceremonial architecture and permanent settlements. A long-standing debate centers on the nature of the subsistence economies that supported this incipient complexity. Though some scholars consider maize to have been an agricultural staple at this time, a growing body of archaeological …

  • De Paracas a Nasca: Por Qué La Necesidad De Estudiar Una Época «transicional»

  • Reconstructing the Deep Population History of Central and South America

Open Access•Cosimo Posth, Nathan Nakatsuka et al.•ARTICLE•Cell•2018

We report genome-wide ancient DNA from 49 individuals forming four parallel time transects in Belize, Brazil, the Central Andes, and the Southern Cone, each dating to at least ∼9,000 years ago. The common ancestral population radiated rapidly from just one of the two early branches that contributed to Native Americans today. We document two previously unappreciated streams of gene flow between North and South America. One affected the Central And…

  • Modificaciones craneales paracas: Estatus, Etnicidad, Estética

    Open Access•Elsa Tomasto-Cagigao•ARTICLE•Boletín de Arqueología PUCP•2017•Cited by: 2•References: 3

  • Ancient mitochondrial DNA provides high-resolution time scale of the peopling of the Americas

    Open Access•Bastien Llamas, Lars Fehren-Schmitz et al.•ARTICLE•Science Advances•2016

Native American population history is reexamined using a large data set of pre-Columbian mitochondrial genomes.

  • Pre‐Columbian population dynamics in coastal southern Peru: A diachronic investigation of mtDNA patterns in the Palpa region by ancient DNA analysis

    Open Access•Lars Fehren-Schmitz, Lars Fehren‐schmitz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2010•Cited by: 13•References: 57

Alternative models have been proposed to explain the formation and decline of the south Peruvian Nasca culture, ranging from migration or invasion to autochthonous development and ecological crisis. To reveal to what extent population dynamic processes accounted for cultural development in the Nasca mainland, or were influenced by them, we analyzed ancient mitochondrial DNA of 218 individuals, originating from chronologically successive archaeolo…
