During the excavation of the cellar entrance of a building located on the periphery of the large uilla of Saint-Romain-de-Jalionas (Isère) and used during the first decades of the first century AD, 75 entire bones of cattle were discovered in three closed sets. They would come from three individuals : an adult cow and two-year-old juveniles. They all belong to the upper segments of their locomotor appendages which were cut off. The meat was colle…

A systematic survey has been carried out on the site of a so-called vicus localised between La Brosse and Travers hamlets (La-Balme-les-Grottes, Isère). Rather than a vicus, several villae and bank-settlement surrounded by many outbuildings were distinguished. A finest exam of the most important site, localised around the Sainte Colombe church, threw a light on his evolution. Last, this survey compared results of differents prospection methods

The prospection and salvage digs carried out for the creation of the golf club of Servanne (meridional piedmont of the Alpilles) have uncovered an archaeological site dating from the iron age. Like the oppidum of Caisses which overlooks the site, it consists of two periods of occupation, about 350 years apart. The first from the 6th to the 5th century B.C. corresponds to an extensive occupation by independent units limited on the north by a ravin…

  • Parcellaires antiques et histoire du paysage

    Robert Royet•ARTICLE•Revue archéologique de Narbonnaise•1989

In 1973-74 the R.A.N. published a systematic inventory of Roman centuriations in Provence. Mrs J. Soyer, author of the article, exposed that numerous remains of Roman cadastration could be detected in current boundaries. According to her, the surroundings of "Etang de Berre" (Bouches-du-Rhône) had kept features of at least four roman centuriations. Since then, a further study of these basic frame- works and settlements around the "Etang de Berre"…
