  • Effectiveness of a Social Reinforcement in Isolation and in Conjunction with a Conflicting Task Reinforcement

    Open Access•Vera T Kanareff, John T Lanzetta•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1963

An attempt was made to extend the generality of an earlier finding that a model's emotional reactions can function as effective “social” reinforcers. The effects of two partial social reinforcement schedules on the level of imitation were examined both in isolation and in conjunction with a task reinforcement. The two social reinforcement schedules, a constant probability of a negative reinforcement for imitation and an increasing probability of …

  • Effects of Congruent Social and Task Reinforcement Upon Acquisition of Imitative Responses

    Open Access•Vera T Kanareff, John T Lanzetta•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1961

In an earlier study (Kanareff & Lanzetta, 1958) the effectiveness of a task reinforcer in modifying an imitative response was found to vary with the prevailing social sanctions towards imitation. These sanctions had been induced through instructions stressing either the desirability of separate judgments or the facilitating effect of working in a group. Apparently the few minutes spent in orienting Ss at the start of the session were sufficient t…

  • Effects of Success-Failure Experiences and Probability of Reinforcement upon the Acquisition and Extinction of An Imitative Response

    Open Access•Vera T Kanareff, John T Lanzetta•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1960•Cited by: 10•References: 2

In a series of recent studies (Kanareff & Lanzetta, 1958, 1960;3 Lanzetta & Kanareff, 1959), imitative behavior was found to vary with such parameters as the probability of its reinforcement, the prevailing social sanctions toward such behavior, the presence or absence of a monetary reward, and the definition of the task. However, in each of these studies large individual differences in imitation were persistently evident. One possible source of …
