Legio XX VV and Tile Production at Tarbock, Merseyside
In 1993 excavations were undertaken at Ochre Brook, Tarbock, about 13 km east of Liverpool, in advance of the construction of the M57–A562 link-road, by R.W. Cowell and R.A. Philpott of the Field Archaeology Section of Liverpool Museum. The Twentieth Legion and the history of the Antonine Wall reconsidered
The study of utilitarian pottery from the Antonine Wall has distinguished small numbers of locally made vessels with North African affinities at nine or ten forts. Similar vessels at Chester and others made by Legio XX at the Holt works depot, one with a potter's graffito in neo-Punic suggest the presence of North Africans. It is suggested that detachments sent from Britain to Pius' Mauretanian war of AD 146-49 may have brought North Africans bac…

Excavations at the Roman civil settlement at Inveresk, 1976-77
Antonine 1 structures include timber buildings and a stone furnace, while Antonine 2 saw rebuilding on a much grander scale with massive timber buildings and one stone building, all set on a grid with cobbled roads. Evidence of industrial activity may include production of a type of pottery unique to Inveresk. Other finds consist of iron tools, bronze jewellery, samian pottery and glass, some of unexpectedly high quality. A R
