  • Correlation and interpretation of paleosols and loess across European Russia and Asia over the last interglacial–glacial cycle

    Open Access•Nathaniel W Rutter, Dean Rokosh et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

Loess-paleosol sequences of the last interglacial-glacial cycle are correlated from European Russia to central Siberia and the Chinese Loess Plateau. During cold periods represented by marine oxygen isotope stages (OIS) 2 and 4, loess deposition dominated in the Russian Plain and the Loess Plateau. In central Siberia, loess deposition took place also, but five to seven thin, weakly developed paleosols are identified in both stages. OIS 3, in the …

  • Holocene Paleohydrology and Paleoclimate at Treeline, North-Central Russia, Inferred from Oxygen Isotope Records in Lake Sediment Cellulose

    Open Access•Brent B Wolfe, Thomas W D Edwards et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

Lake-water oxygen-isotope histories for three lakes in northern Russia, derived from the cellulose oxygen-isotope stratigraphies of sediment cores, provide the basis for preliminary reconstruction of Holocene paleohydrology in two regions along the boreal treeline. Deconvolution of shifting precipitation δ 18 O from secondary evaporative isotopic enrichment is aided by knowledge of the distribution of isotopes in modern precipitation, the isotopi…

  • Holocene Treeline History and Climate Change Across Northern Eurasia

    Open Access•Glen M Macdonald, Andrei A Velichko et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

Radiocarbon-dated macrofossils are used to document Holocene treeline history across northern Russia (including Siberia). Boreal forest development in this region commenced by 10,000 yr B.P. Over most of Russia, forest advanced to or near the current arctic coastline between 9000 and 7000 yr B.P. and retreated to its present position by between 4000 and 3000 yr B.P. Forest establishment and retreat was roughly synchronous across most of northern …

  • Cultural stratigraphy at Mezhirich, an Upper Palaeolithic site in Ukraine with multiple occupations

    Open Access•Olga Soffer, J M Adovasio et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1997•Citada por: 31•Referencias: 5

The later Palaeolithic sites on the East European plain are celebrated for their solid buildings constructed of mammoth bones. Were these permanent settlements, occupied all the year round? Or were they seasonally occupied, in a land where winters are harsh? Stratigraphic explorations at Mezhirich, and excavation of the empty space between the buildings, leads to a decisive interpretation

  • An atlas illustrating Global Change in the Northern Hemisphere

Open Access•Burkhard Frenzel, Marton Pecsi et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal•1995•Referencias: 3

  • Reconstruction of the upper pleistocene glaciation of East Pamir

Open Access•A A Velichko, Andrei Velichko et al.•ARTICLE•Geoforum•1973•Citada por: 2
