Hysterectomy and socioeconomic position in Rome, Italy
Study objective: There exists conflicting evidence regarding the higher risk of hysterectomy among women of a lower educational and economic level. This study aims to assess whether in Italy socioeconomic level is related to hysterectomy undertaken for different medical reasons. Design: An area based index was used to assign socieconomic status (SES; four levels defined) to 3141 women (aged 35 years or older) who underwent a hysterectomy in 1997 …
Technique, Toil, and Triumph on The Danube in Trajan's Propaganda Programme
Trajan's engineering works on the Danube as part of his Dacian campaign of A.D. 101–106 are commemorated on monuments and coins as part of imperial propaganda. Trajan's Column shows an unrecognized depiction of canal-building on the Danube, next to a supply-base scene. Coin imagery illustrates the use of the Danube as a line of communication and the enrolment of the great river on the side of the Romans in their conquest of Dacia

Dacian Fortifications on Trajan's Column
The representation of Dacian strong-points on Trajan's Column is compared with the structural evidence obtained by Rumanian archaeologists from recent excavations. There seems to be clear evidence for a specific ‘twin-fort’ plan, no doubt the result of enlargement to contain a larger garrison and bigger supplies caused by Trajan's advance into Dacia
