  • Misi Yehewin (big breath)

Open Access•Maria B Ospina, Reagan Bartel et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected Indigenous populations, yet Métis-specific data remain limited. We described COVID-19-related experiences, physical and mental health, health behaviours, and socio-economic wellbeing among Métis people in Alberta (Canada) during the early pandemic. Methods: was a cross-sectional survey series conducted with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta. Self-id…

  • The Structural Virality of Online Diffusion

Open Access•Sharad Goel, Ashton Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Management Science•2016

Viral products and ideas are intuitively understood to grow through a person-to-person diffusion process analogous to the spread of an infectious disease; however, until recently it has been prohibitively difficult to directly observe purportedly viral events, and thus to rigorously quantify or characterize their structural properties. Here we propose a formal measure of what we label “structural virality” that interpolates between two conceptual…

  • Experiences of Students in Recovery on a Rural College Campus

Open Access•Alison Scott, Ashton Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2016

A growing number of college (postsecondary) students are in recovery from addiction to drugs or alcohol. In this article, we discuss the experiences of students returning to a university campus after long-term addiction treatment. We also explore the role of a Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) in providing support, and in helping the students develop post-addiction identities that will sustain them. To do so, we draw on Goffman’s ideas related to…

  • Rejoinder to Lewis

Open Access•Ashton Anderson, Sharad Goel et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Science•2015

In a response to our article “Political Ideology and Racial Preferences in Online Dating,” Kevin Lewis (2015) has raised concerns about various aspects of our analysis of user behavior on a national online dating site. The core of Lewis’ critique is that we do not report specifics of the sample, the website, and the analysis. Lewis also details numerous smaller points with respect to details of the analysis. The goal of this response is not to re…

  • Political Ideology and Racial Preferences in Online Dating

    Open Access•Ashton Anderson, Sharad Goel et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Science•2014•Cited by: 16•References: 11

What explains the relative persistence of same-race romantic relationships? One possible explanation is structural--this phenomenon could reflect the fact that social interactions are already stratified along racial lines--while another attributes these patterns to individual-level preferences. We present novel evidence from an online dating community involving more than 250,000 people in the United States about the frequency with which individua…
