Social control of drinking among the Aztec Indians of Mesoamerica
In the Aztec culture of pre-Columbian Mexico the rules for the use of alcoholic beverages were clearly defined and strictly enforced. Drinking was permitted only on religious occasions and the amount drunk was restricted
Induced Drinking and Social Adjustment in Alcoholics; Development of a Therapeutic Model
Exposure to a controlled drinking schedule within a residential alcoholism treatment program had no adverse effects on the individual or social behavior of the alcoholics who participated compared with others who did not. This suggests that alcohol can safely be used as a treatment variable within a therapeutic program
Loss of Control in Alcoholism; An Investigation of the Hypothesis, with Experimental Findings
Hospitalized alcoholics were able to drink and follow the rules prescribed for the drinking in an experimental drinking situation. The loss of control theory of alcoholism is discussed in view of these findings
