Influence of grazing on the structure and biological activity of dry steppe soils of the southern Russian Plain
A comparative analysis of physicochemical and biological properties of Kastanozems and Solonetzes, the two most common soil types in the Caspian region of the post‐Soviet territory was carried out. The carbonate, salt, Corg, mineral N (NH 4 + and NO 3 − ) contents, microbial biomass (measured by ds‐DNA and phospholipids), and activity of 17 hydrolases involved in the C, N, P, and S cycles were measured along the grazing attenuation gradient near …
Variability of the cultural layer properties of the Bronze Age settlement Ksizovo-1 in the forest-steppe Don region
New data on the study of off-sites of prehistoric and medieval settlements in the Kislovodsk Basin
Climatic Optimum as a Factor of the Economic Crisis of Steppe Nomads in the 4th Century AD
Introduction. Archaeological sites of the 4th century AD absent on most of the area of the Late Sarmatian culture. This may be both due to the difficulties of their identification and absence of chronological indicators and due to migrations of nomads from the steppe zone. Perhaps unfavorable climatic conditions for nomadic cattle breeding affected the decrease in the number of nomadic population in the 4th century AD. Methods and materials. The …
The Identification of Wool by the Number of Keratinolytic Microorganisms in the Ground of Ancient and Medieval Burials
The paper describes the method for determining the initial presence of wool products in the burial rite of several cultures of the Bronze Age and the Middle Ages. The method is based on the analysis of the number of keratinolytic fungi in soils. Keratin is a proteinaceous biopolymer, which is a part of wool, leather, feather, and other materials. Its decomposition in soil occurs with the participation of a small group of soil fungi with keratinol…
