Tourism Earnings and Economic Growth in Fiji
This study examines the asymmetric effects of tourism earnings on Fiji's economic growth, focusing on short‐ and long‐run dynamics using ARDL and NARDL models. It integrates controls, primary sector, government spending, capital formation and CO 2 , to examine how sectoral interdependencies and public investment shape tourism‐led growth. Results show positive tourism shocks have greater long‐run GDP effects than negative ones, supporting the Tour…
The Impact of Plight Narratives on Public Participation Intentions
With widespread social media adoption, online charitable platforms have expanded significantly. These platforms typically emphasize recipients’ hardships and transformations to encourage donations, but the effectiveness of these messaging strategies remains unclear. Drawing on narrative persuasion and social exchange theories, this research examines the impact of aligning the valence of recipients’ attitudes toward their plight with contrast effe…
Underlying Mechanism to the Identifiable Victim Effect in Collective Donation Action Intentions
While numerous studies have shown that individual donors respond more generously to identifiable victims than to statistically equivalent victims, the impact of the identifiable victim effect (IVE) on collective donations remains unknown. This article addresses this research gap by proposing an explanatory framework that incorporates both rational and irrational perspectives. Two between-subject experiments were conducted to determine the effect …
Two-Stage Super-Efficiency Slacks-Based Model to Assess China’s Ecological Wellbeing
As industrialization and urbanization in China have significantly increased ecological problems such as environmental pollution and resource waste, it has become important to be able to comprehensively assess ecological wellbeing performance (EWP) when seeking high-quality human wellbeing and economic growth within specific ecological limits. Therefore, to explore the EWP spatial and temporal distribution characteristics, this paper established a…
How Nonprofits Can Recover from Crisis Events? The Trust Recovery from the Perspective of Causal Attributions
While trust is a valuable relational asset for nonprofits, it is fragile and once broken can cause a great deal of damage to the organization. Therefore, once it is lost after a crisis event, valid strategies are needed to rapidly repair the trust. Although trust repair mechanisms have been widely studied, little is known about the way trust changes over time and the methods needed to repair trust and even less is known about trust in nonprofit o…
Understanding the Dynamics of the Individual Donor’s Trust Damage in the Philanthropic Sector
Although trust is long known to be critical to predict behaviors in a charitable context, little research has examined trust damage and its effects on giving behavior. Trust damage is an intermediate state between trust and distrust, rather than a simple reversal or extension, and can change over time. Our research explores individual donor’s trust damage through a dynamic evolution. Across the longitudinal survey, we conclude that the trust dama…
The Mediating Role of Identification with a Nonprofit Organization in the Relationship Between Competition and Charitable Behaviors
Our aim was to demonstrate how competition among nonprofit organizations (NPOs) influences people's charitable behaviors, such as donating and volunteering. We used structural equation modeling to analyze 205 responses from: (a) randomly selected individuals on the donor lists of 3 leading NPOs in China, and (b) students at 3 large universities in China. The results reveal that as competition amongst NPOs increased, the individuals' identificatio…
