O estudo investiga se essa percepção está em consonância com os dados estatísticos oficiais ou se é influenciada por estereótipos e experiências pessoais. • The Workings behind the Commemorative Motive in Czech Urban Names

    Open Access•Tereza Klemensová, Michal Místecký•ARTICLE•Names•2025

The paper focuses on a complex quantitative analysis of the commemorative motive in Czech urban space. The studied corpus contains nearly 17,000 street names from 101 Czech cities. The findings reveal that the commemorative names account for, on average, 45% of a city's urbanonymy, with values ranging from 13% to 82%. Despite regional differences, the overall distribution follows a normal curve; the study thus introduces a classification of citie…

Open Access•Jaroslav David, Jana Davidová Glogarová et al.•ARTICLE•Studies About Languages•2021

The paper is aimed at personal names (anthroponyms) in newspaper reports on Rudolf Slánský’s staged trial, which was held against the leaders of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – mostly of the Jewish origin – who were “uncovered” as political enemies; the trial took place in an anti-Semitic atmosphere. The examined texts were published in the period of November 21−28,1952, in Rudé právo, the main newspaper of the Communist Party of Czechosl…

  • Activity in Czech and Russian Nineteenth-century Sonnets

    Sergey Andreev, Michal Místecký•ARTICLE•Glottotheory•2018

The article focuses on analysing activity in the selected sonnets of the Czech and Russian nineteenth-century literatures (100 poems per each). Busemann Coefficient (Q) is counted for the samples, and the individual authors are tested on statistical significance by means of the nonparametric Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon test. Another product of the research is a scatter plot, where the counts of the significant MWW test values for the poets and their av…

  • Five Ways of Investigating Adnominals in Czech Sonnets of the 19th and 20th Centuries

    Michal Místecký•ARTICLE•Glottotheory•2018

The paper focuses on analysing the use of adnominals in the selected fifteen sonnet authors of the 19th- and 20th-century Czech literature. The poets have been selected so as to represent the main literary schools of the period, the main criterion of their ranking being their dates of birth. The investigation treats both general trends (changing numbers of adnominals in various eras, the measure of ornamentality in particular authors), and specif…
