Guiding Principles for Transformation Towards Integrated Acute Care for Older Adults Close to Home
Transforming towards IACOP close to home is complex and requires continuous action across integration levels, health practices and sectors. The meso-level principles guide regional partnerships in applying context-specific strategies; activating the underlying mechanisms for transformation like 'enjoying the process'. Ageing-in-place care preferences of persons living with dementia and informal care-givers with a migration background
Ageing-in-place for persons with dementia and informal care-givers is encouraged by governments and society. However, individuals with non-Western migration backgrounds are at higher risk of dementia yet underrepresented in research and care. This study aims to identify ageing-in-place care preferences of persons with dementia and their informal care-givers in the Netherlands. Semi-structured interviews (n = 8 participants with dementia, n = 20 i…
National survey evaluating patient and organisational characteristics of short-term residential care facilities in the Netherlands
Background: Short-term residential Care (STRC) is a recent, bed-based care concept for older adults aimed to avoid nursing home admission in the Netherlands. Objective: To describe characteristics of patients admitted to STRC and the main organizational differences between facilities. Methods: Patient characteristics were identified using a national STRC database (2018 and 2019). Organizational comparisons of STRC facilities were collected throug…
Older patients’ perspectives on factors contributing to frequent visits to the emergency department
This qualitative study identified multiple factors that may contribute to frequent ED visits among older patients. Older patients in need of acute care might benefit from hospital-at-home interventions, or acute care provided by geriatric emergency teams in the primary care setting. Identifying frailty in the ED is needed to improve discharge communication and adequate follow-up is needed to improve recovery after an acute ED visit
Important components for Dutch in‐home care based on qualitative interviews with persons with dementia and informal caregivers
BACKGROUND: Dementia care in the Netherlands is increasingly dependent on informal care and has the aim to keep persons with dementia at home for as long as possible. However, little is known about the preferences and needs of people with dementia living at home. Including people with dementia and their informal caregivers in research and policy creation could help to identify necessary forms of support, and tailor care to their personal preferen…

Translation and Validation of the De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale Among Older Migrants Living in the Netherlands
The results provide sufficient support for use of the translated version of the 11-item DJGLS among Turkish and Moroccan older migrants and use of the Dutch version for Surinamese older migrants as a reliable and valid measure of loneliness. Fit of latent structural models varied between good and poor. Further research is needed to investigate ethnic differences in levels and determinants of loneliness
