In an increasingly technological age, photography provides a medium for exploring and engaging with nature. This study examines children's conceptualizations and avenues of engagement using children's nature photographs and comments as documented through the school-based Focus on Nature program in Ontario, Canada. Sophie's Voice? Dark Intertexts of The BFG
This article locates Steven Spielberg's adaptation of The BFG in a growing corpus of children's Holocaust films. Omissions and additions, which reflect the filmmaker's practice generally, render Roald Dahl's nonsensical whimsy deeply challenging. Drawing on psychoanalysis, this interpretation exposes dark intertexts that point to the Holocaust as a cultural trauma that continues to haunt creative works. A Measure of Traditionalism for Ameican Indian Children and Families
Factor analytic findings from culturally specific instruments measuring traditionalism as one aspect of cultural identity are described, based on the self-reports of American Indian children and parents. Findings indicate that traditionalism is a multidimensional construct that can be measured reliably. Results are important because few psychometrically adequate instruments exist to assess either traditionalism or acculturation among American Ind…

The paper explores some of the current issues and dilemmas in providing services to children and families. Existing value bases are considered, as well as the effect of these on the type and quality of services received by children and families. The structures are also discussed and the relationship to services critically commented upon. The conclusion describes an alternative model that combines service structure with core skills
