  • Project Wear

Open Access•Laura Dietrich, Christoph von Tycowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2026•References: 5

The WEAR project is developing integrative methods to analyse and predict use-related shape transformation of Neolithic stone tools from Central Europe through experimental archaeology and computational modelling

  • Barriers and facilitators to viral hepatitis testing in Uzbekistan

Open Access•Alyona Mazhnaya, Brogan Geurts et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

A multi-pronged approach is recommended to achieve VH testing goals among the general population, focusing on raising awareness and health literacy and creating an enabling environment that ensures easy accessibility and minimizing VH testing-associated costs

  • Chocolate flint

    Open Access•Magdalena Sudoł-Procyk, Michael Brandl et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 3

The discovery of previously unknown chocolate flint outcrops in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland (only the second known area after that in the Holy Cross Mountains) has undermined our seemingly solid knowledge of the prehistoric economy, which is based on the distribution pattern of this important raw material. The authors present new interdisciplinary research focused on the prehistoric mining of chocolate flint in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, th…

  • From near and far

Open Access•Christoph Schwall, Maria Brandl et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Lithic Studies•2020

The focus of this paper are the stone tools of Çukuriçi Höyük, a prehistoric site situated at the central Aegean coast of Anatolia. The settlement was inhabited from the Neolithic, through the Late Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age 1 periods, a period lasting from the early 7th to the early 3rd millennium BCE. A long-term interdisciplinary study of the excavated lithics with different scientific methods on various stone materials (thin section an…

  • Genesis, Provenance and Classification of Rocks within the Chert Group in Central Europe

    Open Access•Maria Brandl, Michael Brandl•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Austriaca•2015•Cited by: 11•References: 1

Raw material determination of prehistoric stone tools is a necessary analytical process towards a fuller understanding of prehistoric resource management. However, archaeologists face a terminological predicament when analysing raw material types present within lithic assemblages. This is chiefly due to the lack of a commonly accepted classification system, further exacerbated when working on an international scale. The principle reason for this …
