The subject of the present study is the subclades of N-B539 Y-DNA haplogroup. The N-B539 haplogroup is closely connected to the history of Ugric-speaking peoples. So far, three major subclades within N-B539 have been identified, but in recent years, two additional subclades have been discovered. These two subclades enrich our knowledge with important details. Based on the new genetic results, three novel conclusions can be drawn: (1) the Ugric ho…

  • Magyar markerek nyomában az Irtis mentén

Open Access•Endre Németh, Balázs Jávorszky et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2024

While most researchers put the early Hungarians into the vicinity of the Southern Urals in the few centuries before they entered written history, it is still open what was before, how this core formed, where they had come from. In this study we identify with genetic comparison a possible microregion along the Irtysh as a point of departure for at least some components of the early tribal core. We also review relevant archaeological research and s…

  • Szinte élő őseink — Egy magyar honfoglaló és kortárs leszármazottjának története

Open Access•Ágnes Kustár, Tibor Fehér et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2022

This paper begins with discussions on the archeological and anthropological background, followed by the details of the N-M2218 Y-DNA haplogroup connection between Yakuts and the Hungarian Conquerors, and a section that discusses the expected Yakut-like inherited habits and way-of-life of N-PH1896 haplogroup ancestors. The results of the analysis of the subgroup with different resolutions and perspectives suggest that the bone sample from the Tuzs…

  • Genetic analysis of male Hungarian Conquerors

According to historical sources, ancient Hungarians were made up of seven allied tribes and the fragmented tribes that split off from the Khazars, and they arrived from the Eastern European steppes to conquer the Carpathian Basin at the end of the ninth century AD. Differentiating between the tribes is not possible based on archaeology or history, because the Hungarian Conqueror artifacts show uniformity in attire, weaponry, and warcraft. We used…

  • III. Béla király csontjainak tanúsága – Az Árpád-ház eredete

Open Access•Zsolt Bernert, Tibor Fehér et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2018

The role of applications based on machine learning is continuously growing in the industry, health sector/bioinformatics and scientific research. American researchers published a bit more than 10 years ago the first machine learning algorithms, which were able to safely predict Y-SNP based haplogroups from Y-STR data. The goal of the present study was to predict with machine learning algorithms the SNP-based subgroup of three ancient DNA samples …

  • Új filogenetikai mértékek és alkalmazásuk – Új nézőpontok a magyarok korai története kapcsán

Open Access•Endre Németh, Veronika Csáky et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2017

The early Hungarian history is short of information and almost lack of relevant historical sources. Thus, linguists and archeologists played the most important role in founding the bases of the early Hungarian history. First of all, the linguists proved that the Hungarian language belongs to Ugric branch of Uralic language family. The other Ugric subgroup, the Ob-Ugrians are living in Western-Siberia, but there is a debate when and where the disj…

Haplogroup R1a1‐M198 is a major clade of Y chromosomal haplogroups which is distributed all across Eurasia. To this date, many efforts have been made to identify large SNP‐based subgroups and migration patterns of this haplogroup. The origin and spread of R1a1 chromosomes in Eurasia has, however, remained unknown due to the lack of downstream SNPs within the R1a1 haplogroup. Since the discovery of R1a1‐M458, this is the first scientific attempt t…
