Preventing Postpartum Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Over the Internet: An Open-Trial Pilot Study
Implementing Trauma-Informed Care Through a Learning Collaborative: A Theory-Driven Analysis of Sustainability
The Next Generation of Clinical-Psychological Science: Moving Toward Anti-Racism
The field of clinical-psychological science exists in a broader field of psychology that is increasingly acknowledged as embedded in racist and white-supremacist history. In the production of clinical-psychological science, the clinical science model predominates as one of the most influential scientific voices that emphasizes the value of rigorous scientific theory, training, and praxis. We highlight some of the ways in which the clinical scienc…
Creating Positive, Negative, and Neutral God Concept Primes and Testing Their Impact on Scrupulosity Relevant Tasks and Symptoms
Three studies were conducted to develop primes that activate differing beliefs about God and to determine if these activated beliefs impact scrupulosity symptoms. In Study 1, potential positive, negative, and neutral primes were created from Bible verses and rated on arousal, valence, familiarity, and complexity. In Study 2, the selected primes were tested to determine if they differentially activated positive and negative beliefs about God. In S…
Mnemonic discrimination and social anxiety: The role of state anxiety
The Mnemonic Similarity Task (MST) measures mnemonic discrimination, or the ability to correctly identify new stimuli from highly similar, old stimuli. Poor mnemonic discrimination is a potential risk or maintenance factor for anxiety, and recent studies suggest state affect may moderate relations between mnemonic discrimination and trait anxiety. No studies have evaluated mnemonic discrimination in specific subtypes of anxiety or with clinically…
Sleep: A pathway linking personality to mortality risk
Psychometric Properties of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (Ders) and Its Short Forms in Adults With Emotional Disorders
Objective: The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) is a widely-used self-report measure of subjective emotion regulation ability, as defined by a prominent clinically-derived model of emotion regulation (Gratz & Roemer, 2004). Although the DERS is often used in treatment and research settings for adults with emotional (i.e., anxiety, mood, obsessive-compulsive, or trauma-related) disorders, its psychometric properties are not well-cha…
Cognitive Bias Modification in Mental
Cognitive biases refer to a tendency to favor a particular way of processing information, such as habitually attending to threatening information in the environment, or interpreting ambiguous information in a negative way. Importantly, cognitive biases are linked to a number of emotional problems, such as anxiety and depression, raising the question of whether altering cognitive biases could relieve the symptoms of these disorders. Cognitive bias…
Expectancy bias in anxious samples
Although it is well documented that anxious individuals have negative expectations about the future, it is unclear what cognitive processes give rise to this expectancy bias. Two studies are reported that use the Expectancy Task, which is designed to assess expectancy bias and illuminate its basis. This task presents individuals with valenced scenarios (Positive Valence, Negative Valence, or Conflicting Valence), and then evaluates their tendency…
