  • Concepts, collaboration, and a company of actors: A Vygotskian model for concept development in the 21st century

    Open Access•Michael Glassman, T J Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Oxford Review of Education•2023

Based on historical sources and publication records in the early 20th century, we suggest that Vygotsky’s recognition of the ‘paradox’ in human learning and his conceptualisation of advanced thinking were largely influenced by Stanislavski’s work in theatre. In this paper, we offer some evidence for this argument on Vygotsky’s nascent system of concept development, which ultimately expanded the notion and process of education in modern society. W…

  • The relations of inattention and hyperactivity to academic cheating in adolescents with executive functioning problems

Open Access•Eric M Anderman, Richard Gilman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology in the Schools•2022

We examine the relationships of executive functioning problems (EFP) to academic cheating in a sample of 855 adolescents. Participants completed assessments of inattention, hyperactivity, and depression using the BASC‐2, as well as peer‐reports of externalizing behavior. After controlling for known predictors of cheating (e.g., demographics and depression), multiple regression analyses indicated that inattention emerged as a predictor of greater …

Seung Yon Ha, T J Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cognition and Culture•2020•References: 7

In this study, we examined the role of culture on early adolescents’ social reasoning about peer exclusion. A total of 80 U.S. and 149 Taiwanese early adolescents (U.S.: M age = 11.00, SD age = 0.48; Taiwan: M age = 10.45, SD age = 0.39) independently completed a social reasoning essay about peer exclusion. Analyses of the essays based on social-moral theories showed that U.S. students tended to reason about peer exclusion based on social convent…
