  • An automated processing line for the extraction of dissolved inorganic carbon from water for radiocarbon analysis

Open Access•Bin Yang, Tan Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2026•References: 11

At ANSTO, we have developed an automated dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) processing line, known as A-DIC, designed to sequentially process 10 water samples for radiocarbon analysis without any operator intervention. The A-DIC works at ambient pressure using helium (He) gas as a carrier. It includes a water pump capable of drawing adjustable sample volumes between 22-180 mL into a 250 mL reaction vessel. Upon the addition of 5 mL of phosphoric ac…

  • Enhancing mummy ‘palaeobiographies’ through the use of multidisciplinary techniques and approaches

Open Access•Keith White, Davide Chiasserini et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2022•References: 6

Scientific examination of mummies has provided a better understanding of the ancestry, diet, disease, medical practices, mummification processes, culture and society of human populations worldwide and from different epochs. However, many examinations have been invasive and/or destructive, leading to current-day concerns among archaeologists and mummy custodians about this methodology. Multidisciplinary approaches, notably minimally invasive biops…

  • Effects of Dark-Bright Timbral Variation on the Perception of Flatness and Sharpness

    Open Access•Joel Wapnick, Peter Freeman•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Music…•1980•Cited by: 10•References: 2

Fifty undergraduate music majors listened to 48 pairs of clarinet tones. Both tones in each pair were three seconds long, the interstimulus interval lasted one second, and the interval between trials was ten seconds. The subjects' task was to indicate whether the pitch of the second tone sounded sharp, flat, or the same as the first pitch. The tones had been altered by an audio equalizer so that they were either bright or dark relative to the ori…

  • Academic Achievement and Student Personality Characteristics--A Multivariate Study

    Vernon Hamilton, P R Freeman et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Sociology•1971•Cited by: 1

General and research interest in the viability of procedures used in the selection of students intending to read for university degrees is appropriate for at least three reasons: I, intrinsic interest in the predictability of behaviour and the predictive power of behavioural indices; 2, demands of national and university economics; 3, the maintenance of the highest standards in the analysis and communication of knowledge. As the demand for higher…
