  • Understanding heterogeneity in suicidal thoughts and behaviours and the implications for genetic studies – a commentary on Lannoy et al. (2022)

Open Access•Salahudeen Mirza, Anna R Docherty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2023

Preventing suicidal thoughts and behaviours (STB) among youth is a global public health priority. STB are known to have a heritable basis, and the development of risk for STB likely arises from complex gene–environment interactions across the life course. Lannoy et al. ( Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry , 63, 2022 and 1164) describe a study in which polygenic risk for suicide attempt, as well as recent negative life events, were related…

  • The Utah psychotropic oversight program

Open Access•Eric T Monson, Sachi Shastri et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Youth within the foster care system receive antipsychotics at high rates and in an uneven distribution. Prescribing practices can change in the context of supportive oversight programs without components such as prior authorization, and without increasing the need for higher levels of care. Specific emphasis on the treatment of mood, anxiety, and sleep issues may also lead to greater success in discontinuing AP treatment. Oversight may support tr…

  • Traumatic stress symptoms and PTSD risk in children served by Children’s Advocacy Centers

    Open Access•Elizabeth A McGuier, Kristine A Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Many children served by CACs are likely to meet criteria for PTSD at their initial visit. CAC staff demonstrated the ability to deliver brief interventions and make referrals to mental health treatment. Use of structured screening/referral protocols may improve early identification and treatment access for children experiencing PTSD symptoms

  • Use of Prazosin for Pediatric Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder With Nightmares and/or Sleep Disorder

Open Access•Vladimir Ferrafiat, Maryam Soleimani et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Consistent with prior case reports and retrospective reviews, our retrospective analysis of data prospectively and systematically assessed among 18 patients suggests that prazosin is well-tolerated and associated with improvement in symptoms for pediatric PTSD

  • A Domestic Violence Shelter Parent Training Program for Mothers with Young Children

Open Access•Brooks Keeshin, Brooks R Keeshin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Violence•2015•Cited by: 2

  • Physiologic Changes Associated With Violence and Abuse Exposure

    Open Access•Brooks Keeshin, Brooks R Keeshin et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2012

Although the extant evidence is replete with data supporting linkages between exposure to violence or abuse and the subsequent development of medical illnesses, the underlying mechanisms of these relationships are poorly defined and understood. Physiologic changes occurring in violence- or abuse-exposed individuals point to potentially common biological pathways connecting traumatic exposures with medical outcomes. Herein, the evidence describing…
