  • Mitochondrial DNA hypervariable region‐1 sequence variation and phylogeny of the concolor gibbons, Nomascus

Open Access•Keri L Monda, Keri Monda et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2007

The still little known concolor gibbons are represented by 14 taxa (five species, nine subspecies) distributed parapatrically in China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. To set the stage for a phylogeographic study of the genus we examined DNA sequences from the highly variable mitochondrial hypervariable region‐1 ( HVR‐1 or control region) in 51 animals, mostly of unknown geographic provenance. We developed gibbon‐specific primers to amplify …

  • Genetic variability and phylogeography in the wild Alaotran gentle lemur population

    Open Access•Caroline M Nievergelt, Jennifer Pastorini et al.•ARTICLE•Evolutionary Anthropology Issues…•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 15

  • Social system of the Alaotran gentle lemur ( Hapalemur griseus alaotrensis )

Open Access•Caroline M Nievergelt, Thomas Mutschler et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2002

Group composition and mating system were investigated in wild Alaotran gentle lemurs ( Hapalemur griseus alaotrensis ) using genetic markers. These small‐bodied herbivorous and cathemeral primates are endemic to the reed and papyrus beds around Lac Alaotra in Madagascar. They live in small groups in small, defended territories. Data were collected during the rainy seasons in 1996, 1997, and 1999, and include 99 individuals from 22 neighboring soc…

  • Genetic Analysis of Group Composition and Breeding System in a Wild Common Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) Population

    Open Access•Caroline M Nievergelt, Leslie J Digby et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2000•Cited by: 23•References: 39

  • Mitochondrial sequences show diverse evolutionary histories of African hominoids

Open Access•Pascal Gagneux, Christopher Wills et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•1999

Phylogenetic trees for the four extant species of African hominoids are presented, based on mtDNA control region-1 sequences from 1,158 unique haplotypes. We include 83 new haplotypes of western chimpanzees and bonobos. Phylogenetic analysis of this enlarged database, which takes intraspecific geographic variability into account, reveals different patterns of evolution among species and great heterogeneity in species-level variation. Several chim…

  • Kin Selection, Social Structure, Gene Flow, and the Evolution of Chimpanzees

    Open Access•Phillip A Morin, James J Moore et al.•ARTICLE•Science•1994

Hypotheses about chimpanzee social behavior, phylogeography, and evolution were evaluated by noninvasive genotyping of free-ranging individuals from 20 African sites. Degrees of relatedness among individuals in one community were inferred from allele-sharing at eight nuclear simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci. Males are related on the order of half-siblings, and homozygosity is significantly increased at several SSR loci compared to Hardy-Weinberg…

  • Non-invasive sampling and DNA amplification for paternity exclusion, community structure, and phylogeography in wild chimpanzees

Open Access•Phillip A Morin, Janette Wallis et al.•ARTICLE•Primates•1993
