  • The End of Bankruptcy

    Douglas G Baird, Robert K Rasmussen•ARTICLE•Stanford Law Review•2002•Cited by: 2

The law of corporate reorganizations is conventionally justified as a way to preserve a firm’s going-concern value: Specialized assets in a particular firm are worth more together in that firm than anywhere else. This paper shows that this notion is mistaken. Its flaw is that it lacks a welldeveloped understanding of the nature of a firm. Initially, it is easy to confuse size with specialization and overstate the extent to which assets are dedica…

  • Excavations at Ginnig. The Aceramic to Early Ceramic Neolithic Sequence in North Iraq

Stuart Campbell, Douglas Baird et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1990•Cited by: 11•References: 1

Ginnig is a small prehistoric site in the north Jazira of Iraq, the uppermost level of which was the subject of rescue excavation. Although the excavations were limited, most of one building of unusual architecture was discovered, with possible ritual "opening" and "closing" deposits although the rest of its contents seem domestic in nature. Along with it, a corpus of material was recovered which is of great interest. The ceramic material is rela…

La culture de ce nouveau site peut être mise en relation à la fois avec celle de Zagros septentrional et celle du Nord-Levant, avec laquelle les liens semblent plus étroits. Uimportance …

  • Yield of routine annual laboratory screening in the institutionalized elderly

K Domoto, Patent Race et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1985•Cited by: 1•References: 2

We examined the yield of a battery of 19 screening laboratory tests performed routinely in 70 functionally intact patients, averaging 82.6 years of age and residing at a chronic care facility. The 70 patients underwent 3,903 screening tests (70 admission batteries and 156 batteries at annual intervals). Twenty per cent of the admission test results and 17 per cent of all subsequent annual test results were "abnormal". "New abnormal" results (prev…

  • Kovacs and Toxic Wastes in Bankruptcy

    Douglas G Baird, Thomas H Jackson•ARTICLE•Stanford Law Review•1984

During the 1970's, William Lee Kovacs operated Chem-Dyne Corporation, an industrial and hazardous waste disposal business in Hamilton, Ohio. In 1976, Ohio's Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Natural Resources charged Kovacs and ChemDyne with polluting Ohio waters with pesticides and industrial wastes. In 1979, a state court enjoined Kovacs from causing further pollution and also required him to remove all industrial wastes from th…

  • Possession and Ownership

    Douglas G Baird, Thomas H Jackson•ARTICLE•Stanford Law Review•1983

defaults, he will require a higher interest rate from the debtor.' In order to reduce this uncertainty, and thereby to facilitate secured credit, the Uniform Commerical Code normally requires a creditor either to take possession of the property or to make a public filing, if he wants a security interest in his debtor's property that is effective against competing property claimants.2 This requirement, coupled with a simple first-in-time rule, ena…
