  • Petrology and Geochemistry of Late Intermediate Period Ceramics, Southern Peru

    Open Access•D B Oestreich, Ulrich A Glasmacher et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Multiple petrological and geochemical analytical techniques revealed significant similarities in element and mineral distribution between the 47 ceramic samples from Chillo (southern coast, Peru), a Late Intermediate Period (ad 1000–1400) archaeological site. The similarity indicates a common raw material source. The analytical results of Holocene fluvial sediment samples, Cretaceous clay layers and fired and non-fired bricks, only eliminated the…

  • Variation in enamel thickness within the genus Homo

    Open Access•T M Smith, Anthony J Olejniczak et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2012•Cited by: 88•References: 96

  • Optical Dating of Granitic Stone Surfaces

    Open Access•Steffen Greilich, Ulrich A Glasmacher et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2005•Cited by: 14•References: 14

A novel luminescence methodology for dating surfaces of granitoid rocks is presented, with encouraging results for archaeological stone structures. It is based on the zeroing of the latent signal of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) in feldspar and quartz grains of the stone surface during exposure to daylight. When after bleaching the surface is shielded from light, the OSL signal builds up again, such that its intensity provides an age fo…
