  • Detection of Exotic Mosquito Species (Diptera

    Open Access•Adolfo Ibáñez‐Justicia, Nathalie Smitz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

In Europe, the air-borne accidental introduction of exotic mosquito species (EMS) has been demonstrated using mosquito surveillance schemes at Schiphol International Airport (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). Based upon these findings and given the increasing volume of air transport movements per year, the establishment of EMS after introduction via aircraft is being considered a potential risk. Here we present the airport surveillance results perform…

  • New insights in insect prey choice by chimpanzees and gorillas in Southeast Cameroon

The insect diet of chimpanzees and gorillas living at the northern periphery of the Dja Biosphere Reserve in southeast Cameroon and its nutritional contribution is described. We analyzed fecal samples and recorded additional evidence of insectivory. A detailed prey species list is presented for both apes. We carried out nutritional analyses (macronutrients, macro‐ and micro‐minerals) on 11 important and eight nonimportant, but accessible, ant and…

  • Use of a tool‐set by Pan troglodytes troglodytes to obtain termites ( Macrotermes ) in the periphery of the Dja Biosphere Reserve, southeast Cameroon

Open Access•Isra Deblauwe, Patrick Guislain et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2006

At the northern periphery of the Dja Biosphere Reserve (southeastern Cameroon) we recorded a new use of a tool‐set by Pan troglodytes troglodytes to prey on Macrotermes muelleri , M. renouxi , M. lilljeborgi , and M. nobilis . We recovered 79 puncturing sticks and 47 fishing probes at 17 termite nests between 2002 and 2005. The mean length of the puncturing sticks (n = 77) and fishing probes (n = 45) was 52 cm and 56 cm, respectively, and the mea…
