  • Evaluation of surveillance performance and determinants for priority vaccine-preventable diseases in Niger State, Nigeria

Open Access•Oladayo David Awoyale, Akolade Jimoh et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2026

Vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) remain important causes of morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, and evidence on subnational surveillance performance in Nigeria remains limited. We conducted a cross-sectional analytic evaluation of surveillance systems for measles, diphtheria, acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), and cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) in Niger State, Nigeria. Data were collected from 415 clinicians, community resource persons,…

  • Stakeholders’ perspectives on lessons learnt from HPV mass vaccination in Nigeria

Open Access•Daradara Kubura, Sidney Sampson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The findings highlight critical lessons for future vaccination programs. Early planning, proactive social mobilization, effective rumor management, and leveraging community networks were instrumental in enhancing vaccine acceptance and coverage. These strategies serve as a model for overcoming barriers to public health interventions and should be prioritized in future efforts to improve HPV and other vaccination programs in Nigeria

  • Rabies knowledge and prevention practices in Gombe state, Nigeria

Open Access•Eugene Chidi Eugene, Pius Odunze et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Targeted educational interventions and tailored prevention strategies are needed to improve rabies awareness and practices, especially among specific demographic groups like older individuals and farmers. Enhancing overall knowledge of rabies and promoting consistent vaccination practices for pets are crucial steps towards reducing the incidence of rabies in both hotspot and non-hotspot areas

  • Integrating routine immunization into Covid-19 vaccination improve coverage but could create equity issues

Open Access•Hilary I Okagbue, Akolade Uthman Jimoh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Although integrating RI into COVID-19 vaccination efforts increased overall immunization coverage, the data suggest potential inequities, as a higher proportion of RI doses were administered to females. This finding highlights differences in vaccine access between males and females. Further research is needed to understand the impact of gender differences in RI integration and to promote equitable vaccination access for all

  • Predictors of willingness of HPV vaccine uptake across Eight States in Nigeria

Open Access•Hilary I Okagbue, Grace Erekosima et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Our survey found geopolitical disparities in HPV awareness and willingness across Nigeria. Future interventions should prioritize emphasizing the severity and susceptibility of HPV-related diseases, particularly in low-resource settings. Providing accurate information from trusted sources and addressing misconceptions through evidence-based strategies can enhance informed decision-making regarding HPV vaccination

  • Varying behavioral differences and correlates of HPV infection among young adolescents in Benue state, Nigeria

Open Access•Evelyn Orya, Evelyn Erdoo Orya et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

This study provides valuable insights into HPV knowledge, prevention practices, and willingness to uptake HPV vaccination among secondary school students in Benue State, Nigeria. The significance of the differences and correlates was discussed using themes. The research has unpacked complex relationships that could have public health implications for researchers and policymakers. Moreover, ten actionable policy recommendations were prescribed. Se…

  • The effect of participatory action research on HPV primary preventive measures among in-school adolescents in Benue State, Nigeria

Open Access•Evelyn Orya, Evelyn Erdoo Orya et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

PAR led to a significant increase in awareness and knowledge of HPV, knowledge of different aspects of HPV infection, and willingness to uptake the HPV vaccine. Additionally, the study has provided evidence that PAR interventions can be a viable tool in delaying sexual initiation and reducing sexual behavioural tendencies, especially in high-risk groups

This article chronicles the present situation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Nigeria. A systematic search was conducted on three bibliographic databases: MEDLINE Complete, Web of Science and Scopus, and supplemented with grey literature searches to assess studies on the effect of COVID-19 on these individuals in Nigeria with data on this group from December 2019 to J…

  • Significant Predictors of Henley Passport Index
