Depression tendency individuals’ self-evaluation bias during social comparison with friend
Social comparison is an important process that affects an individual’s self-assessment and subjective well-being. Previous studies have observed abnormal social comparison tendencies among depressed individuals, which may account for their social avoidance behavior. In this study, we asked participants to finish a simple gambling task with a friend, during which they could observe the outcome of their choice and that of their friend’s simultaneou…
Differential Effects of Emotion-Label Words and Emotion-Laden Words Priming on Estimation Performance
Ensemble coding of crowd facial emotion in Internet gaming disorder under the emotional interference condition
The perceived controllability of negatively-valenced episodic future thinking modulates delay discounting
Intertemporal decision-making is important for both economy and physical health. Nevertheless, in daily life, individuals tend to prefer immediate and smaller rewards to delayed and larger rewards, which is known as delay discounting (DD). Episodic future thinking (EFT) has been proven to influence DD. However, there is still no inconsistent conclusion on the effect of negative EFT on DD. Considering the perceived controllability of negative EFT …
Neural specialization with generalizable representations underlies children’s cognitive development of attention
From childhood to adulthood, the human brain develops highly specialized yet interacting neural modules that give rise to nuanced attention and other cognitive functions. Each module can specialize over development to support specific functions, yet also coexist in multiple neurobiological modes to support distinct processes. Advances in cognitive neuroscience have conceptualized human attention as a set of cognitive processes anchored in highly …
Threat shapes visual context sensitivity selectively through low-spatial-frequency channels
The influence of concreteness on emotional nouns valence processing
Rapid responses to emotional words play a considerable role in human social communication. It has been reported that individuals have an advantage to process emotional words in comparison with neutral words. While it is crucial to distinguish between words that convey concrete concepts and abstract concepts in emotional words processing, because many studies have found that concrete words (e.g., “desk”) are processed more quickly and efficiently …
Estimation Strategy Selection Is Modulated by Snapshot Emotional Priming, but Not Math Anxiety
The present study explored the role of snapshot emotional priming and math anxiety in estimation strategy selection. Participants were asked to complete a two-digit multiplication estimation task (e.g., 34 × 67) under explicit (Experiment 1) and implicit (Experiment 2) snapshot emotional priming conditions by freely choosing to use DU (down-up, e.g., doing 30 × 70 = 2100 for 34 × 67) or UD (up-down, e.g., doing 40 × 60 = 2400 for 34 × 67) strateg…

For humans, both face and body play important roles in conveying emotional information. Previous studies showed that body postures rather than faces could provide more valid information about valence in the recognition of victory and defeat. The present study aimed to compare the processing of the faces and the bodies of victory and defeat. The current study employed emotional expressions of Chinese professional players reacting to victory or def…
Recognition of Facial Expressions by Urban Internet-Addicted Left-Behind Children in China
Internet addition affects facial expression recognition of individuals. However, evidences of facial expression recognition from different types of addicts are insufficient. The present study addressed the question by adopting eye-movement analytical method and focusing on the difference in facial expression recognition between internet-addicted and non-internet-addicted urban left-behind children in China. Sixty 14-year-old Chinese participants …
Attention Biases of Undergraduate Women with Fat Negative Physical Self
