  • Het imperativische participium herbekeken

    Evie Coussé, Albert Oosterhof•ARTICLE•Nederlandse taalkunde•2020

A new look at the imperative participle This article presents an update of Coussé & Oosterhof (2012), which studies a small group of past participles in Dutch used with an imperative meaning. We revisit in particular the need for abstraction in the constructional schemas developed in the original study. Our analysis explores the role of prototypes and exemplars as an alternative to traditional abstractions in the open slots of constructional sche…

  • The Final Fight

Open Access•Priscilla Heynderickx, Sylvain Dieltjens et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2017

In literature, obituaries from different cultures and languages have been studied on different levels and from different perspectives. One of the popular research topics is the use of metaphors, since metaphors help to cope with death, which in modern society is still a taboo. This article presents a bottom-up, primarily qualitative analysis of the metaphors in 150 obituaries of sportspeople, published in online versions of newspapers/magazines a…

    Albert Oosterhof, Gudrun Rawoens•ARTICLE•Linguistic Variation•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 7

This paper presents a corpus study of article omission in newspaper headlines. The corpus consists of material from a variety of Dutch and Flemish newspapers. The most important factor influencing the frequency of article omission in headlines is the journalistic genre in which it occurs. The main focus of the study is on the semantic and syntactic distribution of the phenomenon, on the basis of which a case will be made for its description as a …

  • Fragment answers with infinitives in a Flemish dialect

Open Access•Kathy Rys, Albert Oosterhof•ARTICLE•Linguistics in the Netherlands•2016

This paper is devoted to a construction in a specific Flemish dialect, in which infinitives are used in fragment answers in contexts where this would be unacceptable in other varieties. Questions such as Waar is mijn boek? ‘Where is my book?’ can be answered with constructions such as Op tafel liggen ‘lay. INF on the table’. We apply an analysis in terms of ellipsis to these infinitival constructions. However, we find fragment answers with infini…

  • Facilitating Identification of Item Bias Through Use of Delta Plots

Open Access•Albert Oosterhof, Albert C Oosterhof et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1984

A number of statistical procedures are available for detecting bias in individual test items. A supplementary treatment is proposed which helps identify sources of bias affecting groups of items. Although applicable to other statistical procedures, this treatment is illustrated with the transformed item-difficulty method as applied to an evaluation of a test used to help select applicants to be admitted to an aviation training program

  • An Item Analysis Program which Provides Feedback to Individual Students
