Anupam Kumar Das, Munshi Muhammad Abdul Kader Jilani et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Behavior in the…•2021

This study, being explorative, aims to identify the antecedents of social distancing behavior among people in a collective society, in Bangladesh. Based on the social-psychological behavioral model, i.e. theory of planned behavior (TPB), the current study incorporates attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intention to assess their influence on actual social distancing behavior. The present study followed the de…

  • Morphological Characters of Foot Among The Lepcha of Kalimpong, West Bengal

Open Access•Kenneth M Pala, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998

This note reports the frequency distribution of digital formulae and other morphological character of foot among the Lepcha of Kalimpong sub-division. West Bengal

  • Opportunity of Selection in the Kheza of Phek District, Nagaland

Open Access•Nirmala Devi, N Rashi Devi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998

The index of total opportunity for selection with its components, fertility and mortality, has been reported for the Kheza of Phek district Nagaland The present data have also been compared with other populations of North East India

  • Dermatoglyphics of The Lyngam of Meghalaya, India

Open Access•Ranjana Thapa, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998

The note describes the results of finger and palmar dermatoglyphics of the Lyngam tribe of Meghalaya, India

  • A Note on Some Morpho-genetic Variables Among the Dalu of Meghalaya

Open Access•P Borthakur, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1997

Morpho-genetic traits such as earlobe attachment, mid phalangeal hair, relative lengths of toes, hand clasping, arm folding, tongue rolling and tongue folding of the Dalu, of Meghalaya are reported. The results of the present study are compared with other popullations in order to assess the group difference or similarities. The present Dalu sample stand significantly apart from most of the populations under considertaion

  • A Genetic Study on The Dalu of Meghalaya

Open Access•P Borthakur, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1997

The present genetic study was conducted among the Dalu individuals of Meghalaya. The genetic traits reported here include ABO blood groups. Rh factor. PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness. The present findings have been compared with the neighbouring populations

  • A Genetic Study on the Lyngam of Meghalaya

Open Access•Tabris Jalal Ahmed, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1997

On the basis of ABO blood groups, Rh factor, PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness it is suggested that the Lyngam seems to be ethnically a distinct population. The present findings are discussed in detail in the light of available data on the neighbouring allied groups of Meghalaya, India

  • Antimicrobial and insecticidal activity of an aquatic alga chara zeylanica klein ex willd

    G M Sarkar, Rahul Banerjee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1995

This paper describes the antimicrobial, ovicidal and insecticidal properties of a petroleum ether extract (PEX) of Chara zeylanica Klein ex Willd. and its fractions (P1 to P19) obtained through the application of various fractionation methods. Some of these fractions, after purification and chemical characterization, showed that they were either hydrocarbons or fatty acids. The PEX showed antimicrobial property against 12 out of 29 microbes teste…

  • A Study on genetic selection and haemoglobin heterozygotes

    Open Access•K K Bhattacharya, J M Sarkar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•1982

In this paper the genetic fitness of the two heterozygotes Hb A/E and β-thalassaemia trait, in Calcutta, is examined in terms of their reproductive performance. It is found from fertility that the heterozygote Hb A/E enjoys some selective advantage over the normal homozygote Hb A/A, but the other heterozygote (β-thalassaemia trait) does not. But from overall reproductive performance (fertility and infant mortality together) it is postulated that …

  • Distribution of the number of heterozygous loci in the Kota population of Nilgiri hills of India and estimation of average heterozygosity

    Open Access•R Chakraborty, A K Ghosh et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1981

From an electrophoretic survey of 17 protein enzyme loci in seven Kota villages of the Nilgiri Hills, Madras region of South India, the distribution of the number of heterozygous loci is computed. It is demonstrated that the mean of this distribution provides an alternative estimate of the average heterozygosity in an individual per locus which does not make use of the assumptions of linkage equilibrium and random mating. Since the Kotas practise…
