  • The Dynamics of Large Inflation Surges

Andrés Blanco, Andrés Blanco Blanco et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2025

We empirically characterize episodes of large inflation surges observed worldwide in the last three decades. We document four facts. (1) Inflation surges tend to be persistent, with the duration of disinflation exceeding that of the initial inflation increase. (2) Surges are initially unexpected but followed by a gradual catch-up of average short-term expectations with realized inflation. (3) Long-term inflation expectations tend to exhibit incre…

  • The Concept of Money and its Roles in Contemporary Capitalism

    Andrés Blanco•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024•References: 9

The building of a theory of money consistent with the Marxian theory of value has been a recurring issue in Marxian economics. A satisfactory solution consists in the articulation of key aspects of the “monetary circuit theory” with the Marxian commodity theory, separating the monetary sphere from value, and at the same time providing a Marxist critique of the circuit theory, which reformulates crucial aspects thereof. Money is thus conceived as …

  • Cartografía Social Yanomami en la Sierra de Parima, Alto Orinoco, Amazonas, República Bolivariana de Venezuela

Open Access•Carlos Botto, Beatriz Graterol et al.•ARTICLE•Novos Cadernos NAEA•2024

  • International Taxation and the Global Structure of Capitalism

    Open Access•Andrés Blanco•ARTICLE•Review of Radical Political…•2022

This article offers a Marxian interpretation of international taxation in the context of a global structure of capitalism that has evolved toward a core/periphery division, driven by the process of accumulation of capital and a moving away from the rate of profit’s tendency to fall. Taxation played an active role in this, deploying its functions of money regulator and enabling the realization of surplus value and the accumulation of capital. Inte…

  • Red Cell Distribution Width as a Predictive Factor of Celiac Disease in Middle and Late Adulthood and Its Potential Utility as Celiac Disease Screening Criterion

Open Access•Julia María Cabo del Riego, María Jesús Núñez-Iglesias et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Red cell distribution width (RDW) could be of interest by its potential use in the assessment of celiac disorder (CD). The main objective of this study was to evaluate the case positive rate of CD and the utility of red cell distribution width (RDW) in the CD diagnosis. This prospective study included 9.066 middle adult (≥45 years old) and elderly patients (≥60 years old) from 2012 to 2021. CD diagnosis was performed by CD antibody tests (serolog…

  • An ideological critique of the OECD’s Beps Action Plan

    Andrés Blanco•ARTICLE•Griffith Law Review•2022

‘Ideology' is a central concept in critical approaches to law. After a brief overview of the aspects of ideology, I propose a restricted concept, synonymous with a social discourse that establishes a certain view of social life in order to create, maintain, and consolidate social relationships. I then provide an introduction to the ideological analysis of law, revealing the function of ideology as creator of the beliefs that sustain the legislati…

  • Rental Housing

Open Access•Andrés Blanco, David Razu•CHAPTER•The Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia…•2019

One out of five people across the world live in rental housing. Despite the existing bias of housing policies toward homeownership, the rental housing market is indispensable as for many households it represents the only affordable choice, and for many others it is the only option that fits their personal preferences. Besides catering for those needs, rental housing brings about social benefits as it tends to be located in central areas of cities…

  • The Suburbanization of Decline

Jeongseob Kim, Hyungchul Chung et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Affairs•2012•Cited by: 8•References: 3

This study explores how the locations and characteristics of neighborhoods affected the process of housing filtering in the Orlando metropolitan area during the 2000s. The results show that racial composition was an important determinant of filtering down and that the foreclosure rate and income composition of neighborhoods became more important factors during the housing market bust period. The filtering process tended to be more affected by nei…

  • Discourses of land allocation and natural property rights

    Open Access•Andrés Blanco, Andres G Blanco•ARTICLE•Planning Theory•2011•Cited by: 7•References: 16

In planning theory, four discourses frame collective decisions about land allocation: market, rational-comprehensive, participation, and resistance. Ideally, these discourses should function as a system of checks and balances in which each one limits the potential failings of the others. The case of Bogotá, Colombia shows that instead of balancing each other, these discourses collude into ‘land entrepreneurialism’, a dynamic that privatizes the b…
