  • The Early Critics of Modernism

  • Modernist Studies Old and New

    Charlotte Estrade, Chloé Thomas•ARTICLE•Études anglaises•2026

Douglas Mao is Professor in the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University, and has written extensively on Modernism. His first book, Solid Objects: Modernism and the Test of Production, published by Princeton University Press in 1998, takes its title from a short story by Virginia Woolf, and explores the relationship which Modernist writers (Woolf, but also Ezra Pound, Wyndham Lewis, and Wallace Stevens) established with physical objects, drawing on…

• Public health economic modelling in evaluations of salt and/or alcohol policies

Open Access•James E Mensah, Joseph Prince Mensah et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This scoping review highlights the substantial utilisation of health economic modelling for estimating the health and economic impact of interventions targeting salt or alcohol consumption. The limited use of combined alcohol and salt policy models presents a pressing need for models that could explore their integrated risk factor pathways for cost-effectiveness comparisons between salt and alcohol policies to inform primary prevention policymaki…

  • The Print and Digital Editions of Lyn Hejinian’s My Life

    Open Access•Chloé Thomas•ARTICLE•Transatlantica•2024

My Life by Lyn Hejinian is now regarded as an exemplary work of the Language movement. It exists in several editions: first published in 1980, it was amended in 1987. A sequel, My Life in the Nineties, was then published in 2003, and, in 2013, Wesleyan University Press released My Life and My Life in the Nineties, collecting the 1987 and 2003 books, but leaving aside an addendum, “What’s Missing from My Life,” and not allowing to visualize the va…

  • Understanding the Preferences and Considerations of the Public Towards Risk‐Stratified Screening for Colorectal Cancer

    Open Access•Rebecca A Dennison, Reanna J Clune et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2024

CONTEXT: Risk stratification has been suggested as a strategy for improving cancer screening. Any changes to existing programmes must be acceptable to the public. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the preferences and considerations of individuals relating to the introduction of different risk-based strategies to determine eligibility for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. STUDY DESIGN: Participants completed a discrete choice experiment (DCE…

  • Cross-model validation of public health microsimulation models; comparing two models on estimated effects of a weight management intervention

Open Access•Sarah Bates, Penny Breeze et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The key driver of difference between the models was the inclusion of extra evidence-based detail in SPHR on the impacts of treatments on HbA1c. The conclusions were less sensitive to the dataset used to inform the risk factor trajectories. These findings strengthen the original cost-effectiveness analyses of the weight management interventions and provide an increased understanding of what is structurally important in the models

  • Mapping Race and Urban Ecologies

Sigma Colón, Chloé Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•Kalfou A Journal of Comparative…•2023

“Race and Urban Ecologies” served as the organizing theme for a course that adopted socio-spatial strategies to explore connections among racial justice and ecological flourishing. Drawing from approaches in the fields of critical geography, urban studies, and digital humanities—and taking inspiration from scholars and community members who use interdisciplinary methods to reimagine processes of knowledge production and community engagement—stude…

  • Implementation of risk stratification within bowel cancer screening

    Open Access•Lily C Taylor, Rebecca A Dennison et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

From the perspective of public acceptability, risk stratification using current data could be implemented immediately, ahead of more complex strategies. Collecting additional data for lifestyle and/or genetic risk assessment was also considered acceptable but the practicalities of collecting such data and how the programme would be communicated require careful consideration

  • A community jury study exploring the public acceptability of using risk stratification to determine eligibility for cancer screening

    Open Access•Rebecca A Dennison, Rachel A Boscott et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2022

INTRODUCTION: Using risk stratification to determine eligibility for cancer screening is likely to improve the efficiency of screening programmes by targeting resources towards those most likely to benefit. We aimed to explore the implications of this approach from a societal perspective by understanding public views on the most acceptable stratification strategies. METHODS: We conducted three online community juries with 9 or 10 participants in …

  • Line Breaks in America

    Open Access•Chloé Thomas•ARTICLE•Transatlantica•2021

I tended to find lines of poetry beautiful only when I encountered them quoted in prose, in the essays my professors had assigned in college, where the line breaks were replaced with slashes, so that what was communicated was less a particular poem than the echo of poetic possibility. (Lerner, 2011 chap.1) Ben Lerner’s narrator, a young poet getting bored in Madrid while on a Fulbright, voices a feeling that may not be unfamiliar to readers of ve…
