  • AMS Radiocarbon Dates of Pyroclastic-Flow Deposits on the Southern Slope of the Kuju Volcanic Group, Kyushu, Japan

Open Access•Mitsuru Okuno, Shinji Nagaoka et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 7

The Kuju volcanic group, located in central Kyushu, Japan, consists of small stratovolcanoes and lava domes. To refine the eruptive history of the group, we conducted accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating of charcoal fragments from three pyroclastic-flow (PF) deposits on the southern slope. The obtained 14 C dates are consistent with the geomorphology, stratigraphy, and thermoluminescence (TL) ages. The Handa PF deposits, which a…

  • AMS Radiocarbon Dating and Pollen Analysis of Core Ks0412-3 from Kashibaru Marsh in Northern Kyushu, Southwest Japan

Open Access•Toshiyuki Fujiki, Mitsuru Okuno et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013•References: 8

We performed pollen analysis and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating on cored sediments (KS0412-3) from Kashibaru Marsh, located in the western part of the Sefuri Mountains in northern Kyushu, southwestern Japan, to investigate environmental change around the marsh. Sediment accumulation began in this marsh around cal AD 1200 and continued with an estimated average sedimentation rate of about 4 mm/yr. Human rice cultivation at …

  • Hominoid fossils discovered from Chiang Muan, northern Thailand

Open Access•Y Kunimatsu, Benjavun Ratanasthien et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2005

The Thai-Japanese Paleontological Expedition Team (TJPET) has been conducting paleontological and geological fieldwork in Thailand for a number of years. In January 2000, an upper molar (CMu6-1’00) of a large-bodied Miocene hominoid was found by TJPET in a lignite mine in the Chiang Muan basin, northern Thailand. It was the first record of a Miocene hominoid from a Southeast Asian country. Two years later, TJPET found a second hominoid specimen (…

  • Earliest Miocene hominoid from Southeast Asia

Open Access•Y Kunimatsu, Benjavun Ratanasthien et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2004•Cited by: 2•References: 32

A new hominoid fossil site, Chiang Muan in northern Thailand, yielded the first finding of a large‐bodied Miocene hominoid in Southeast Asia. This specimen (CMu6‐1′00) was preliminarily reported by Kunimatsu et al. ([ 2000a ] Primate Res. 16:299). Later, Chaimanee et al. ([ 2003 ] Nature 422:61–65) reported additional hominoid teeth from the same site, but all of them were collected from younger deposits (the Upper Lignite Member, in Nagaoka and …

  • Ka BP Paleoenvironment of the Southern Slope of Mount Raizan, Japan

Open Access•Mitsuru Okuno, Shinji Nagaoka et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating and paleoecological analysis of slope deposits at Mt Raizan provided seven 14 C dates indicating that landslides occurred in that area at 6.0 to 6.3 cal ka BP and 6.5 cal ka BP. Plant macrofossils, pollen grains, and spores point to a mixed forest at that time, consisting of conifers and broad-leaved trees. On the other hand, insect fossil indicates slightly colder climate than that of the fl…
