Association of cooking fuel type with hypertension risk
Hypertension is a major global health concern and a leading cause of mortality, contributing to functional and structural damage in vital organs. Emerging evidence suggests that household air pollution (HAP) from the combustion of cooking fuels, plays a critical role in influencing the prevalence and mortality rates of hypertension. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to investigate the association between different cooking fuel types a…
Can Subsidies Accelerate the Platformization of Vehicle Logistics Industry? Evidence From China
The demand, technologies, and market all put forward the request for platformization of the vehicle logistics industry. In China, a few logistics companies have plans but only one has initially built a platform for vehicle logistics. This platform has also attracted a considerable number of service providers to join, which has led to competition between service providers and the platform. To promote the platformization of the vehicle logistics in…
The impact of air pollutants on emergency ambulance dispatches due to mental and behavioral disorders in Shenzhen, China
Short exposure to NO 2 was positively associated with acute onset of MBDs in Shenzhen, China. Health departments should take effective measures to raise public awareness of NO 2 and Humidex, as well as their interaction effects
Recognizing Core Knowledge From Domain Knowledge Network for Platform-Based Business Development
As an emerging topic in industrial digital transformation, digital business development in the context of platformization has received widespread attention. A large number of industrial companies have established new platform-based systems for digital business development by integrating their original information systems. The unified platform development mode promotes the integration of previously decentralized knowledge. However, the massive exp…
Short-term effects of temperature-related indices on emergency ambulance dispatches due to mental and behavioral disorders in Shenzhen, China
Introduction The precise associations between temperature-related indices and mental and behavioral disorders (MBDs) have yet to be fully elucidated. Our study aims to ascertain the most effective temperature-related index and assess its immediate impact on emergency ambulance dispatches (EADs) due to MBDs in Shenzhen, China. Methods EADs data and meteorological data from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2020, in Shenzhen were collected. Distribu…
Global burden and cross-country inequalities in stroke and subtypes attributable to diet from 1990 to 2019
The burden of diet-related stroke and subtypes varied significantly concerning year, age, gender, location and SDI. Countries with higher SDIs exhibited a disproportionately greater burden of stroke and its subtypes in terms of YLDs, and these disparities were found to intensify over time. To reduce disease burden, it is critical to enforce improved dietary practices, with a special emphasis on mortality drop in lower SDI countries and incidence …
Progress in biological age research
Biological age (BA) is a common model to evaluate the function of aging individuals as it may provide a more accurate measure of the extent of human aging than chronological age (CA). Biological age is influenced by the used biomarkers and standards in selected aging biomarkers and the statistical method to construct BA. Traditional used BA estimation approaches include multiple linear regression (MLR), principal component analysis (PCA), Klemera…
Association of Organizational Behavior with Work Engagement and Work-Home Conflicts of Physician in China
This study aimed to examine how organizational behavior is associated with work engagement (WE) and work-home conflicts (WHCs) of physicians. The data were from a national cross-sectional survey of 3255 Chinese physicians. We examined organizational fairness, leadership attention, and team interaction for organizational behavior. The results indicate that greater organizational fairness is associated with higher WE and lower WHCs. High task fairn…
Simultaneous Kinetics of Selenite Oxidation and Sorption on δ-MnO2 in Stirred-Flow Reactors
Selenium (Se) is an essential and crucial micronutrient for humans and animals, but excessive Se brings negativity and toxicity. The adsorption and oxidation of Se(IV) on Mn-oxide surfaces are important processes for understanding the geochemical fate of Se and developing engineered remediation strategies. In this study, the characterization of simultaneous adsorption, oxidation, and desorption of Se(IV) on δ-MnO 2 mineral was carried out using s…
Estimation of the Outbreak Severity and Evaluation of Epidemic Prevention Ability of Covid-19 by Province in China
Objectives. To compare the epidemic prevention ability of COVID-19 of each province in China and to evaluate the existing prevention and control capacity of each province. Methods. We established a quasi-Poisson linear mixed-effects model using the case data in cities outside Wuhan in Hubei Province, China. We adapted this model to estimate the number of potential cases in Wuhan and obtained epidemiological parameters. We estimated the initial nu…
Short-Term Effects of Meteorological Factors and Air Pollutants on Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease among Children in Shenzhen, China, 2009–2017
Temperature, relative humidity, sunshine duration, rainfall, ozone and NO 2 were significantly associated with HFMD, and such effects varied with gender age and childcare patterns. These findings highlight the need for more prevention effort to the vulnerable populations and may be helpful for developing an early environment-based warning system for HFMD
Healthy Environment and Healthy Living in Urban China
Chinese urban lifestyle has been drastic transformed due to the rapid urban expansion and motorization. Due to the decrease of physical activity and increase intakes of fat and animal foods, the prevalence of overweight and obesity and related health problems in China has risen. As a result, considerable public health concerns have started to manifest. Experts urge that both central and local governments should allocate more resources to create e…
Urinary Concentrations of Toxic and Essential Trace Elements among Rural Residents in Hainan Island, China
The degree of community-level economic development was positively associated with urinary cadmium concentration while individual involvement in the market economy was positively associated with lead and selenium
Significant sex difference in the association between C‐reactive protein concentration and anthropometry among 13‐ to 19‐year olds, but not 6‐ to 12‐year olds in Nepal
Life history theory predicts a trade‐off between immunostimulation and growth. Using a cross‐sectional study design, this study aims to test the hypothesis that C‐reactive protein (CRP) is negatively associated with height‐for‐age z ‐scores (HAZ scores) and BMI‐for‐age z ‐scores (BAZ scores) among 6‐ to 19‐year olds ( N = 426) residing in five Nepalese communities. Dried blood spot (DBS) samples were collected and assayed for CRP using an in‐hous…
Changing Adaptive Strategies of Two Li Ethnic Minority Villages in a Mountainous Region of Hainan Island, China
Inter-household variation in adoption of cash cropping and its effects on labor and dietary patterns
Following the economic development policy of China since the 1980s, the indigenous food production systems of communities have been transformed to a market economy. The introduction of cash crops has been the major developmental policy of China's rural areas. Despite the overall improvement of economic status among farmers over the last two decades, inequality among households has emerged as a new problem. In the present study, we investigated th…
