  • Appearance of Puberty Signs in Tribal Girls of Koraput, Orissa

    Open Access•R K Choudhury, P N Sahu et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2006

Presence of puberty signs such as pubic hair, axillary hair, breast and occurrence of menarche in tribal girls were examined. In addition to the presentation of their variability in development among the adolescent girls, the median age of their appearances were estimated by Probit Analysis. The studied sample constitutes 350 normal Saora girls belonging to age group 9-18 years collected from Koraput district of Orissa

  • Distribution of HbS Gene and Variability of the Index of the Opportunity for Natural Selection in a Caste Population of Western Orissa, India

    Open Access•Aniruddha Dey, P N Sahu•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1996•References: 1

Pattern of distribution of HbS gene among the people in a caste population of India was studied through the estimation of its frequency in different isolates, age groups and generations. Crow's index of the opportunity for natural selection among the live births in completed families, based on sickle cell genotype of parents, was estimated to check the suspected superior fertility potentials of AS over AA women. It is observed that genotype frequ…

  • Investigations on the variability of blood group polymorphisms among sixteen tribal populations from Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, India

Hubert Walter, Heidi Danker-Hopfe et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Morphologie und…•1992

Sixteen tribal populations from Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have been typed for the polymorphic blood group systems A1A2B0, MNSs, Rhesus, Kell, Duffy and Diego. The heterogeneity in the distribution of haplotype and allele frequencies, respectively, is partly considerable. It is supposed that this is due to the operation of several microevolutionary factors, such as genetic drift, social and geographic isolation and gene flow. This is …
