  • Characterizing the Neurodevelopmental Pesticide Exposome in a Children’s Agricultural Cohort

Open Access•Breana Bennett, Tomomi Workman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The exposome provides a conceptual model for identifying and characterizing lifetime environmental exposures and resultant health effects. In this study, we applied key exposome concepts to look specifically at the neurodevelopmental pesticide exposome, which focuses on exposures to pesticides that have the potential to cause an adverse neurodevelopmental impact. Using household dust samples from a children's agricultural cohort located in the Ya…

  • A Toxicological Framework for the Prioritization of Children’s Safe Product Act Data

Open Access•Marissa N Smith, Joshua Grice et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

In response to concerns over hazardous chemicals in children's products, Washington State passed the Children's Safe Product Act (CSPA). CSPA requires manufacturers to report the concentration of 66 chemicals in children's products. We describe a framework for the toxicological prioritization of the ten chemical groups most frequently reported under CSPA. The framework scores lifestage, exposure duration, primary, secondary and tertiary exposure …

  • Integrating publicly available web mapping tools for cartographic visualization of community food insecurity

Open Access•Myunghwa Hwang, Marissa Smith et al.•ARTICLE•GeoJournal•2010•References: 3

  • Determinism within human–environment research and the rediscovery of environmental causation

    Open Access•GABRIEL JUDKINS, Marissa Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2008•Cited by: 20•References: 37

The popularity of the work Guns, germs and steel (GGS) has served to bring the question of human–environment connections once again to the forefront of popular thought. We assert that the recent success of GGS represents both a persistence of environmental determinist logic and a contemporary trend that privileges the environment as the primary influence on human–environment relationships. The historical development of the human–environment field…
