Parent engagement in children’s eye care behavior and vision-related quality of life
Health belief variables were significantly associated with parent engagement, children's eye care behaviors, and VR-QoL. These findings highlight the importance of considering both parent- and child-level cognitive and behavioral factors when examining childhood eye health. Theory-informed assessments can inform the development of contextually appropriate vision health promotion strategies
Association between PM2.5 and skin redness features in Taiwan
Air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter (PM2.5), has been associated with various health issues, but its effects on skin health, specifically skin redness, remain underexplored. This study aims to examine the relationship between PM2.5 exposure and skin redness, with a focus on the role of sebum production in different age groups. A total of 472 participants from two communities in Taiwan in two age groups (20–59 years, n=240; over 60…

We administered 28 repeated cross-sectional, online surveys between June 2020 and June 2021 in the US and Asia. The main exposure was media showing COVID-19 cases, and we distinguished those with no…
Effects of Parental Involvement in a Preschool-Based Eye Health Intervention Regarding Children’s Screen Use in China
In this digital era, young children spend a considerable amount of time looking at telephone, tablet, computer and television screens. However, preventative eye health behavior education could help avoid and relieve asthenopia. The effects of parental influence on their children's eye health behavior through the preschool eye health education intervention program were examined. The Health Belief Model was used to develop parental involvement stra…
Prenatal Phthalates Exposure and Cord Thyroid Hormones
We found that levels of cord serum TSH and T 4 in newborns was significantly negatively associated with cord serum MBP levels after adjusting for significant covariate. The fall in TSH in newborns may potentially be delaying their development
Health literacy and the determinants of obesity
This study demonstrates strong links between health literacy and obesity, even after adjusting for key potential confounders, and provides new insights into potential intervention points in school education for obesity prevention. Systematic approaches to integrating a health literacy curriculum into schools may mitigate the growing burden of disease due to obesity

The behaviour of purchasing smuggled cigarettes in Taiwan
This study evaluates what causes smokers to purchase smuggled cigarettes. We have determined that cigarette price is the most important factor and that betel nut vendors are the main suppliers. Our study provides policy makers with information that can help them develop effective strategies to curb cigarette smuggling after Taiwan's recent cigarette tax reform, which has increased cigarette prices
