From lapping waters to marshy lands and back
Discovery of Mammuthus cf. intermedius Jourdan, 1861 Skeleton, from Singil Deposits near the Lenino Village (Lower Volga, Russian Federation) and its Paleontological and Archaeological Signifi cance
The find of an incomplete skeleton of the mammoth Mammuthus cf. intermedius near the Lenino village (Yenotayevka district, Astrakhan region) is described. The bones occurred in the layer of continental sandy deposits of the Singil regression (end of the Middle Neopleistocene). The skeletal remains belong to a female with an individual age of 35—40 years. This find allows us to clarify the species diversity of elephants that inhabited the Lower Vo…

Lateglacial–Holocene environments and human occupation in the Upper Lena region of Eastern Siberia derived from sedimentary and zooarchaeological data from Lake Ochaul
In the current study, different geochemical and biological proxies, including pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, ostracods and molluscs, from an AMS radiocarbon-dated sediment core from Lake Ochaul (54°14′N, 106°28′E; 641 m a.s.l.) are presented and discussed. Ochaul is a fresh-water lake and an archaeological site situated ca. 100 km northwest of Lake Baikal in the upper reaches of the Lena River. The 260-cm-long sedimentary record presented here …

Depositional history of a talus cone in an arid intermontane basin in Central Asia
Cliff‐related talus accumulations are often highly affected by post‐depositional processes, and the sedimentological characteristics are poorly documented, especially in arid settings. In the southern margin of the Fergana Valley, Kyrgyzstan, the Obishir‐I is an archaeological site of the Epipaleolithic Obishirian industry, located within a talus cone. Archaeological excavations have allowed us to study the internal structure, chronology, and dep…

Evolution of the Palaeolithic landscape at the westernmost tip of continental Europe
The successive dwellers of the Palaeolithic Menez Dregan site (Finistère, France) experienced a different landscape because of the relative sea level transgressions and regressions which affected Audierne Bay between 465 and 369 Ka. We computed a series of bathymetric measurements and then produced a series of 3D images between Penmarc'h Bill, the Sein Ridge and the –120 m isobath to reconstruct these landscapes. Due to the lack of flint in the o…

Reconstruction of the Middle-Late Pleistocene and Holocene palaeoenvironments of the Piégu Palaeolithic site (Brittany, France) based on biostratigraphical data
This paper is devoted to the reconstruction of the palaeoenvironment of the surroundings of the Piégu archaeological site located in Brittany (France). For the first time a full set of the onshore and offshore stratigraphical subdivisions is described following three sections. These fundamental data were remaining unpublished up to now. The Western, Eastern and Offshore sections are illustrated by many different figures. The malacological determi…
