  • Gleaning Information for Cognitive Operations from Don’t Know Responses in Cognitive and Noncognitive Assessments

Edward H Ip, Michelle Magee et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2019

The Don't Know (DK) response - taking the form of an omitted response or not-reached at the end of a cognitive test, or explicitly presented as a response option in a social survey - contains important information that is often overlooked. Direct psychometric modeling efforts for DK responses are few and far between. In this article, the linear logistic test model (LLTM) is proposed for delineating the impacts of cognitive operations for a test t…

  • Unreliable item or inconsistent person? A study of variation in health beliefs and belief-anchors to biomedical models

    Open Access•Edward H Ip, Santiago Saldana et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2015•References: 19

The reliability of an item designed to measure health belief is often confounded with response consistency at the person level. The study applied contemporary measurement methods to an inventory of common sense beliefs about diabetes and used a sample of N = 563 adults with diabetes to test the hypothesis that individuals whose beliefs are congruent with a biomedical model are more consistent in their responses. Item-level analysis revealed that …

  • Functionally Unidimensional Item Response Models for Multivariate Binary Data

Edward H Ip, Geert Molenberghs et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2013

The problem of fitting unidimensional item response models to potentially multidimensional data has been extensively studied. The focus of this article is on response data that have a strong dimension but also contain minor nuisance dimensions. Fitting a unidimensional model to such multidimensional data is believed to result in ability estimates that represent a combination of the major and minor dimensions. We conjecture that the underlying dim…

  • Psychometric properties of a computerized adaptive test for assessing mobility in older adults using novel video-animation technology
