Toward an Alternative Traveling Theory
Research has shown that gender theory has flowed far more easily from the North to the South or from the West to the East (particularly from the United States to other parts of the world), whereas flows in other directions are practically nonexistent. This paper aims at facilitating a specific historical understanding of the issue of women's political participation in China and asks questions such as why the theory of men and wo…
Duihua(dialogue) in-Between
This paper discusses the recent encounters of ‘feminism’ as a travelling concept in mainland China. Against the backdrop of its century-long women's movement and the more recent establishment of women's studies since the 1980s, questions relating to the meanings of feminism are analysed through the problematic of translation. The different Chinese words deployed have ranged all the way from an earlier more directly political emphasis on women's r…

"Women's Liberation" in the Eyes of Contemporary College Students
The new generation of college students who have matured in the era of reform and openness have formed a viewpoint on the female gender different from that held by previous generations-a viewpoint reflected mainly in their reconsideration of women's liberation. First of all, they propose the following: Seeking a new path for women's liberation on the basis of an awakened self-awareness
