  • Mermaid Becomings

    Open Access•Teija Rantala, Katve‐Kaisa Kontturi•ARTICLE•Matter Journal of New Materialist…•2026

It is fair to say that the relationship between intersectionality theories and new materialisms has been characterized by tensions. Intersectional approaches have emphasized the multi-faceted positioning of subjects in relation to the classificatory power of socially constructed identity categories. Meanwhile, feminist new materialisms have foregrounded the agency of matter and argued for the relational becoming of human bodies, subjectivities, a…

  • Framing, Following, Middling

    Open Access•Milla Tiainen, Katve-Kaisa Kontturi et al.•ARTICLE•Cultural Studies Review•2015•Cited by: 1

Through the conceptual triptych of framing, following and middling, this article explores the composition and importance of materialities beyond their seemingly stable and measurable objectivity. Drawing on recent insights about concepts as generative of practice and as a practice in their own right, the article offers this triptych as potential new materialist 'methodological metamodellings' that acknowledge and render palpable the plural forces…
