  • Jürgen Habermas: Faktizität und Geltung

    Peter Koller, Christian Hiebaum•BOOK•Jürgen Habermas•2016

Facticity and Validity is one of Jürgen Habermas’s principal works. In it, he proposes an innovative justification for the principles of the democratic constitutional state, and, at the same time, sums up his thinking on social theory and ethics (i.e. the theory of communicative action and discourse ethics). This volume engages in a close reading of the work, and each chapter is summarized, interpreted, and critiqued by renowned authors.

  • On the interrelations between domestic and global (in)justice

    Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Critical Review of International…•2010•References: 8

My paper consists of two parts. The first part deals with the fundamental normative standards of domestic social justice on the one hand and global justice on the other, standards that are requisite in order to identify injustices on both levels. On this basis, the second part focuses on the interrelations between domestic social justice and global justice with particular attention to the interdependencies between domestic and global injustices

  • Work and Social Justice

    Open Access•Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Analyse & Kritik•2009•Cited by: 2

In advanced societies, the sphere of work is subject to far-reaching changes which erode the system of gainful employment achieved in the second half of the last century, called ‘typical work’, i.e. full-time employment for an indefinite period with collectively negotiated wages and working conditions. This development has lead to a proliferation of various kinds of ‘atypical work’, most of which amount to poorly rewarded and insecure jobs with b…

  • The Concept of Law and Its Conceptions

    Open Access•Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Ratio Juris•2006

In this paper, I make an attempt to look for a thin and general concept of law that, as far as possible, should be neutral to the more substantial views of legal moralism and legal positivism, so that it is acceptable from both points of view. With this aim in view, I shall begin with a few remarks on concept formation and name a list of necessary requirements on an appropriate concept of law. On this basis, I intend to discuss a number of contem…

    Open Access•Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Analyse & Kritik•1993

In this critical comment on Ernst Tugendhat's paper I dispute his view in two respects: the first refers to the concept, the second to the justification of human rights. As far as the concept of human rights is concerned, I argue that Tugendhat fails to notice that there are different kinds of human rights which are to be distinguished carefully. This conceptual failure prevents him from seeing that different human rights are justified by differe…

  • Facetten der Macht

    Open Access•Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Analyse & Kritik•1991•Cited by: 3•References: 2

Social power has many facets. This paper aims to illuminate some of these. First of all, it considers the general conceptual framework in which the concept of power is embedded. The author then elaborates on an analysis of the elementary concept of social power resulting in a proposal how to define power. Furthermore, the article deals with complex networks of power relations, namely constellations and structures of power. Another section focuses…

  • Neue Theorien des Sozialkontrakts

    Peter Koller•BOOK•Neue Theorien des Sozialkontrakts•1987

  • Beiträge zur Philosophie von Stephan Körner: Rationalität und Moral

Peter Koller, Editions Rodopi•ARTICLE•Grazer Philosophische Studien•1983

  • Ideologiekritik und Demokratietheorie bei Hans Kelsen

Werner Krawietz, Ernst Topitsch et al.•BOOK•Ideologiekritik und Demokratietheor…•1982

  • Zur Kritik der libertären Eigentumskonzeption: Am Beispiel der Theorie von Robert Nozick

    Open Access•Peter Koller•ARTICLE•Analyse & Kritik•1981

Nozick’s entitlement theory of justice is, besides Rawls’s theory, one of the most widely discussed and intellectually most attractive conceptions within the field of contemporary political philosophy. Nozick’s theory uses Locke's conception of the state of nature and of natural rights, and tries, starting from this point of view, to deliver a comprehensive systematisation of libertarian political ideals. This essay deals mainly with Nozick’s con…
