  • Long-term weight loss maintenance

    Mel Hovell, M F Hovell et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1988•Cited by: 8•References: 19

This analysis assessed 18-30-month weight loss maintenance following treatment with both behavior modification and supplemented fasting procedures for 400 patients. Fifty-five per cent of the patients who started treatment discontinued prior to completing the program. Patients who completed treatment lost a mean of 83.9 per cent of their excess weight, but regained an average of 59 per cent to 82 per cent of their initial excess weight by 30 mont…

  • A theoretical analysis of antecedents of young couples’ fertility decisions and outcomes

    Open Access•Linda J Beckman, Linda Beckman et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1983•Cited by: 27•References: 19

Longitudinal survey data from 509 couples who at Time 1 interview had recently married or had their first child did not support the hypothesis that demographic factors influence fertility intentions, decisions, and outcomes only indirectly through their effects on attitudes and motivations. Husbands’ and wives’ attitudes exerted reciprocal influence on one another. However, while husbands’ sex-role traditionalism and motivation for parenthood str…

  • Comparison of Utilization of Medical Services by Alcoholics and Non-Alcoholics

Alan B Forsythe, Barbara Griffiths et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1982•Cited by: 11•References: 5

To determine whether medical costs for alcoholics are higher than those for non-alcoholics, inpatient and outpatient costs for medical services of 191 alcoholics with 191 non-alcoholic matched controls were compared over four years. Results confirm that alcoholics are higher-cost users of medical services than non-alcoholics. (Am J Public Health 1982; 72:600-602.)

  • Critique

Leonard F Walts, Alan B Forsythe et al.•ARTICLE•Anesthesiology•1975

  • Robust Tests for the Equality of Variances

    Morton B Brown, Alan B Forsythe•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•1974

Alternative formulations of Levene's test statistic for equality of variances are found to be robust under nonnormality. These statistics use more robust estimators of central location in place of the mean. They are compared with the unmodified Levene's statistic, a jackknife procedure, and a χ2 test suggested by Layard which are all found to be less robust under nonnormality.
