  • Time for action

Open Access•Abdulgafoor M Bachani, Hanaa Ahsan et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2025

  • The effects of deferred action for childhood arrivals on labor market outcomes

    Open Access•Nhan Tran•ARTICLE•Journal of Demographic Economics•2025

I study the effects of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) on labor market outcomes among potentially eligible immigrants. DACA allowed undocumented immigrants to participate in the labor market without fear of deportation, which might be expected to increase the probability of working and allowing workers to move to higher-skilled occupations. However, using a regression discontinuity design, I find very little to no effect…

  • Best of Both Worlds? Combining Different Forms of Mixed Reality Deictic Gestures

Open Access•Landon Brown, Jared Hamilton et al.•ARTICLE•ACM Transactions on Human-Robot…•2023

Mixed Reality provides a powerful medium for transparent and effective human-robot communication, especially for robots with significant physical limitations (e.g., those without arms). To enhance nonverbal capabilities for armless robots, this article presents two studies that explore two different categories of mixed reality deictic gestures for armless robots: a virtual arrow positioned over a target referent (a non-ego-sensitive allocentric g…

  • An embedded implementation research initiative to tackle service delivery bottlenecks in the expanded programme on immunisation in Pakistan

Open Access•ASM Shahabuddin, Alyssa Sharkey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2021

BACKGROUND: Embedded implementation research (IR) can play a critical role in health systems strengthening by tackling systems and implementation bottlenecks of a program. To achieve this aim, with the financial support of GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, in 2016, the Government of Pakistan, UNICEF and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (AHPSR) launched an Embedded IR for Immunisation Initiative (the Initiative) to explore health syst…

  • Realizing the potential of embedded implementation research

Open Access•Kumanan Rasanathan, Nhan Tran et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2020

A t the inception meeting for the project in Pakistan that this supplement draws from, a provincial immunization manager complained about researchers. He was scathing in his assessment that researchers were not helpful to him, that their research was irrelevant to the problems he faced in his work, and moreover, that researchers did not engage with him or share their research. His contention was that their only concern was in publishing papers. T…

  • Conceptual framework of equity-focused implementation research for health programs (EquIR)

    Open Access•Javier Eslava-Schmalbach, Nathaly Garzón‐Orjuela et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2019

EquIR is a conceptual framework that is proposed for use by decision makers and researchers during the implementation of programs, policies or health interventions, with a focus on equity, which aims to reduce or prevent the increase of existing inequalities during implementation

  • Examining the indirect effect of posttraumatic stress symptoms via emotion dysregulation on alcohol misuse among trauma-exposed Latinx in primary care

Daniel J Paulus, Nhan Tran et al.•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•2019

In a sample comprising primarily females, posttraumatic stress symptoms may contribute to alcohol misuse and hazardous drinking attributable to maladaptive emotion regulation. Use of interventions targeting emotion dysregulation in the context of trauma and hazardous alcohol use among Latinx in primary care may be warranted. • Vaccine hesitancy among mobile pastoralists in Chad

Open Access•Mahamat Fayiz Abakar, Djimet Seli et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2018

Mobile pastoralist communities face specific demand side barriers to vaccination. Understanding these barriers is essential to reduce vaccine hesitancy and increase vaccination uptake. Local health systems must plan for the periodic presence of pastoralist communities in their zones of responsibility and create more mutual trust

  • Embedding research in health policy and systems in the Americas

Open Access•Eleanor Langlois, Étienne V Langlois et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2017

As countries develop and improve universal health coverage schemes globally, there is increasing recognition that health policymaking and health system strengthening need to be informed by robust research evidence (1, 2). In Latin America and the Caribbean, emerging and complex health challenges require actionable and context-sensitive evidence to improve the responsiveness of health systems (3). This movement towards evidence-informed policymaki…

  • Republished research: Implementation research: what it is and how to do it

David H Peters, Thomas Adam et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Sports Medicine•2014

The field of implementation research is growing, but it is not well understood despite the need for better research to inform decisions about health policies, programmes, and practices. This article focuses on the context and factors affecting implementation, the key audiences for the research, implementation outcome variables that describe various aspects of how implementation occurs, and the study of implementation strategies that support the d…

  • Sustainability of donor programs

Open Access•Sara Bennett, Suneeta Singh et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2011

BACKGROUND: Sustainability is the holy grail of many development projects, yet there is limited evidence about strategies that effectively support transition of programs from donor funding to national governments. The first phase of Avahan, the India AIDS Initiative supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (2003-2009), aimed to demonstrate an HIV/AIDS prevention program at scale, primarily targeted at high-risk groups. During the second…
