Racial Minority Status and Distress Among Children and Adolescents
This study examines the relationship between racial background and two measures of distress among 10 to 17 year-old youth. The authors test whether minority racial status has an independent effect when socioeconomic status, social support patterns, gender and age are controlled. Sexual Identity, Social Support and Social Networks Among African-, Latino-, and European-American Men in an HIV Prevention Program
On the assumption that effective practice requires knowledge of cultural differences, this study examines the responses of over 400 African-, Latino-, and European-American men seeking services to reduce the risk of HIV infection. The responses of the men to questions about sexual identity, social support, and social networks were compared. Relatively few statistically significant differences were found. This paper outlines a research agenda for designing and implementing services to gay men of color. The paper reviews the anthropological, historical, and international literature on homosexuality for its implications for contemporary service delivery. Race and the Diagnosis, Placement and Exit Status of Children and Youth in Mental Health and Disability System
This study analyzes the relationship between race of child and primary diagnosis, service placement and exit status in a county mental health and disability system for 1980 and 1985 using a multivariate logit model. The results indicate that race may be associated with the kinds of problems for which minority and majority children and youth seek help. An Ecological Study of Parents of Adjudicated Female Teenage Prostitutes
This study presents findings from a survey of 33 parents of adjudicated teenage prostitutes. The purpose is to describe conditions of family life from the point of view of parents with an eye toward proposing family oriented services. An ecological perspective that locates troubles in the relationship between parents and their social and physical environment was used.
