  • A systematic literature review on residential demand response with a focus on opportunities for low-income communities

    Open Access•Ximena Aristizabal, Erin Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2026•References: 12

  • Leveraging patent analysis to measure relatedness between technology domains

Open Access•Yiwen Wang, Erin Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

As the global energy sector transitions towards a cleaner and more sustainable future, observational evidence suggests that many new energy technologies share a close relationship with well-established technologies. Yet, the topic of how closely technologies are related has not been addressed rigorously, rather it has been the purview of practitioner know-how and informal expert opinion. In this study, we propose a quantitative method to suppleme…

  • Who is marginalized in energy justice? Amplifying community leader perspectives of energy transitions in Ghana

    Open Access•Erin Baker, Destenie Nock et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 11

There is a divide in energy access studies, between technologically-focused modeling papers in engineering and economics, and energy justice frameworks and principles grounded in social sciences. Quantitative computational models are necessary when analyzing energy, and more specifically electricity, systems, as they are technologically-complex systems that can diverge from intuitive patterns. To assure energy justice, these models must be reflec…

  • University Racial Composition and Self-esteem of Minority Students

    Open Access•David M Merolla, Erin Baker•CHAPTER•Identity and Symbolic Interaction•2020

  • The global climate value of offshore wind energy

    Open Access•Alexana Cranmer, Erin Baker•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

We estimate the climate value of offshore wind energy with a highly flexible, forward-looking method that estimates the value in a consistent manner under a range of policies, including carbon caps and taxes. Backward looking methods measure the damages avoided due to emissions reductions attributed to renewable energy under an existing policy structure. Under a carbon cap, however, the climate value of offshore wind energy comes entirely from re…

  • Motherhood, homeschooling, and mental health

    Open Access•Erin Baker•ARTICLE•Sociology Compass•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 13

Homeschooling fits neatly under the umbrella of intensive mothering, a prominent parenting style in the United States. Intensive mothering has been shown to increase the emotional distress of mothers, which may be exacerbated when mothers take on the additional burden of being responsible for the formal education of their children. Given that intensive mothering ideologies negatively impact maternal mental health, it makes sense to examine how ho…
