  • Leisure-time physical activity and transitions into and through parenthood

    Open Access•Emily Lovett, Andy Smith•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•2026•References: 31

This study provides a novel figurational sociological examination of transitions into and through parenthood and its impact on leisure time physical activity (LTPA). Drawing on the qualitative findings of an online survey completed by 218 UK parents (n = 186 female, n = 32 male), we show how the initial transition into parenthood was associated with a general decline in LTPA participation. • The ‘walking/wheeling with’ framework

    Open Access•Louise Platt, E Devienne et al.•ARTICLE•Mobilities•2026•References: 88

Rooted in the everyday realities of caregiving mobi…

Drawing upon responses to an online qualitative survey from 32 fathers, aged 18 or over, and living in the UK, we show how the decline in these fathers’ overall PA was associated with poor mental health and the changing constraints that characterised their increasingly complex net…

  • Delivering a sports participation legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Emily Lovett, Daniel Bloyce et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•2020•References: 35

Legacy promises from London 2012 meant that those working in sport in local, non-host areas in Britain were expected to facilitate more sporting opportunities for local citizens. Legacy preparations occurred in the context of many other constraints that stemmed from Government budget cuts and provision of leisure-time sport and other leisure activities. This paper presents new evidence on a significantly under-researched area of leisure studies, …
